Going out with friends for dinner or lunch is usually a great pick-me-up. Avoid drinking since, well, alcohol is a depressant.
Working out, going for a run, a walk, blasting some upbeat tunes on your iPod to keep you motivated - this always works for me.
Blast some music in your apartment/house and just dance around. Or if dancing isn't your style, do some major cleaning while you listen to the music. An organized and clean living space gives off good vibes.
Writing out all your frustrations and then reading them the next day. In retrospect you'll find that half of things that frustrated you yesterday, don't bother you the next.

We've all been there! And I find what works best for me are several of Marayna's suggestions - exercise in the fresh air, loud upbeat music, and recreating TLC's Clean Sweep in your home. I hate deep cleaning, but I love the result! I always feel better afterward. My favourite deep clean outcome is freshly shampooed carpets. I know, I'm a bit of a dork. (Note that I didn't say anything about enjoying the process - just the result!)

My favorite trick for a quick pick-me-up is shopping!! Just walking around the shops and boutiques, taking in all the clothes, accessories, makeup, etc. puts me in a better mood. I don't even need to buy anything...although there is something magical about "retail therapy."

Giving and helping others can also be a real mood lifter. When you help others, it makes you feel needed, which then makes you feel better about yourself. Try volunteering at an organization that could use help, or donating to your favourite charity. Buying and giving a gift to someone else also always makes me feel better.
We've all been there... trust, you're not alone! Share your feelings with someone you trust. Talking about it also helps you bring it out, rather than keeping it all bottled up inside. Writing in a journal is also a great outlet for your thoughts and feelings.

If it is something in particular that is causing the mood I always turn to a friend just to bitch :) Really...I'm not looking for any kind of solution to the problem I just want to get it out and have someone agree with me. Ha ha I know that sounds horrible.
If it's just a random funk then I say indulge in whatever your guilty pleasure is. If it's skipping dinner and just eating dessert do it! Sleeping in until waaay past noon on a weekend? Why not! Spending $100 on one pair of jeans you know you will only wear once...go for it!

I have been quite down and in a funk the past 2-3 weeks. The winter weather and storm after storm that dumped on DC really mucked w/ my routine. Seeing that it is now March has been a big boost in and of itself. Come on SPRING!!

Spotty, I think the shift into spring that is (cross your fingers!) soon to come is just the medicine we all need to brighten our spirits!
Until then, something I like to do is make a list. I have a list of the positive things about myself and about my life that I started at the beginning of the year. When I'm in a funk I'll read it over and think about things to add to it. I usually follow that with a list of things I can do to keep me inspired. Often they consist of trying new things, like 'go see an indie play' or 'volunteer with a charity.' You'll soon realize there are so many opportunities awaiting you and you're wasting your time being down :)

I try to think rationally. Watch a comedy. Look up LOLcats
