What do you wear to a beach wedding?

Ok...so I am going to a beach wedding in a couple of months and I am going to wear a cotton summer dress...the invitation says shoes optional so I assume a beach dress would be enough...the question is this, what does a male guest wear to a beach wedding? The wedding is in the Caribbean so it is guaranteed to be hot and humid.... Does he wear pants? Shorts? What kind of shirt? Any thoughts ladies?

A short sleeve cotton shirt and linen pants. You will be an adorable pair ;)

...the groom will be wearing khakis and a white shirt. My boyfriend
plans on wearing jeans (khakis if I can talk him into it and find a
fitting pair) and a short sleeved button down shirt. I would advise
against casual jeans and shorts because even though the invite says
casual a lot of local people will be invited and they are never casual
at these events, and may end up making your boyfriend feel
uncomfortable even though he is dressed more appropriately. No tie
needed though, wouldn't want to be dressed better than the groom!

(and I would also wear shoes, at least until it gets too dark to tell...)

Thanks ladies... on Oct 08, 2008 @ 07:18 pm

...that is what I thought, I just thought I would see what everyone else thought! As for the shoes Nessie...no worries, I always planned on wearing 'em! I thought the no shoe thing was a joke anyway!

I think for the islands... Light weight airy fabrics. A flower in your hair would look beutiful. For the guy, linen and nice light knit or soft cottons. There is nothing like a good looking guy in a nice pair of linen pants. (white or beige) Linen looks so clean. They have some nice but informal draw string styles as well. Pair that with a light cotton of light knit top ands you are good to go!
