I got a call back from my Obgyn today and they explained that my pap smear results came back abnormal. She said that the cells on my cervix were moderately abnormal and that I needed to come in for a Colposcopy. A colposcopy is a procedure that allows a physician to take a closer look at a woman's cervix and vagina using a special instrument called a colposcope. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this procedure done, what is it like, and does it hurt?
Also, if abnormal tissues are in fact seen they will have to biopsy the tissue and might have to do either Cryosurgery or Electro-diathermy. Has anyone here had either of those done also and what is it like and does it hurt?

I have not gone through this myself but I wanted to say I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. I hope everything goes well for you and that it is ok. I had a friend go through something similar. She had cancerous cells, but had an operation, they are all removed now and she is back to normal and feeling great.

I had the colposcopy and biopsy done in 1994. Hurt like hell but only for a split second. Leaves you a bit tender if you step too hard (don't be doing any jumping jacks) for a day or so.
Did the surgery too. Wasn't too bad because they put me to sleep. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to have kids after that (even tho they told me I could). I had a beautiful little girl in 2000 so everything is in fine working order.
Oh, after the surgery, they keep a close eye on you. Paps every 3 months, then 6 months then it's important you go every year after that religiously. I haven't had a problem since.
