I have the Charge. I love it now. I am however on my third Fitbit in less than a year. I highly recommend getting a warranty on it or buy it at Costco (it was cheaper there and it comes with a warranty. Just keep your receipt and they will return it no issues)
Depending on how active your boyfriend is you should consider the HR. I consider myself very active and personally would have really liked the heart rate tracker or even the newest Fitbit tracker (Blaze).

I was considering the HR for him! Do they not do well with wear? Why so many? :o

My first one started to tear in the back. It still worked, but it came with a warranty so I figured why not try to return it.
My second one that I got from costco the battery life lasted literally 2-3 days (its supposed to last 5-7) so I called Fitbit and they said the battery isnt very strong and sent me a new one immediately. They never asked for the other one back so my husband took it. Turns out because I had it synced to my phone constantly and had my call notifications show up it can drain your battery really fast. My husband doesnt have all that set up so it will last 5-7 days lol. I thought after my second Fitbit I was done with them but their customer service really kept me and probably will keep me as a customer even when my third tracker goes.

A few friends of mime have them. They seem to like it! I don't know much about them.

I actually have a Misfit, which is essentially the same thing at a cheaper price. I have the Misfit Flash, and I think the major difference, besides the price tag, is the fact that it doesn't track heartrate. The other thing is the tracker is a circle and you can put it in a band or in a clip, which I kind of like. The band that came with it broke after a couple of months, but I bought a $3 one off amazon that has lasted forever, and it's pink. That being said, my husband had his on his clip and it fell off, and then my dog got to it :( I think the fitbit would probably be higher quality, but if money is ever an issue, it's an option that works perfectly well for me.

I have been bad with it lately.
I was a little rough with it and the wrist band is damaged.
I am scared I will loose the tracker with the band like that
so I just don't wear it. Need to order a new band asap!
I have the flex. I would opt for something more advanced.
I wish mine had the heart rate tracker. I do like it and
I have lots of friends who also have them. Encourages some

I thought about getting one, but I don't like the competitive element. I know I won't be able to keep up and I don't want to feel like crap about it :(

I don't have one but I definitely want to get one. Every time I see a commercial for one I just want to get up and move with one. I've seen some on Amazon for $99.
