Anyone heard of or used arnica? Arnica is a homeopathic remedy to sooth pain and inflammation. A hippie-ish friend of mine from Santa Cruz introduced me to it after a long hard day of rock climbing, which can seriously beat up the skin and joints of your hands. I've only used it as a topical gel that I often mix in w/ some hand cream and lotion and spread it all around my sore hands.
Does anyone else have experience w/ arnica?
I'm mostly looking to Scents here, but if anyone else knows something, by all means, share w/ us!

I too have used arnica and it is WONDERFUL for the acute stage of bruises, sprains and other bang-ups ! The first time was when I had dislocated my thumb and could hardly grip the steering wheel to drive. I had just picked up a shipment of oils that included arnica absolute (concentrated form of essential oil) and broke into the box, rubbed a bit on and within 10-15 the pain diminished. I only have experience with straight on use, so I cannot comment on any products. Most products use a dilute amount so check your labels.
|Great for bruises on Oct 16, 2007 @ 03:42 pm|
Years ago my family and I were in France and the parents there all had this around to put on their kids when they got bumped. They said it prevented bruises. Now that I have a rough and tumble son of my own, I keep this in stock at all times! It really, really works to prevent bruising from showing. I can't tell how much, if at all, it prevents swelling or pain, but at least for cosmetic purposes it works wonders.

Any ideas on brands or products? Or where/how to get the straight stuff?
I have used All Terrain Recovery Rub in the past. It was a free sample I received in a swag bag at an event. It worked very well, and certainly must be diluted.

I think I've always found it at health food/natural stores, although you might find it in the natural section of a larger grocery store.

Try asking your pharmacy - you'd be surprised what you can find these days since they're having to keep up with consumer trends.
