I was diagnosed with hypothyroid almost a year ago while battling with it for two years. While I am now on medication, sometimes I feel as if this disease is sucking my life force.
I battle with the tiredness, but then with the weight gain and hair loss(both extensive) and its hard to see past all the negatives, this disease is presenting to me right now.
I want to be my old self again, and while I know that may be impossible,a slight semblance to the person I use to be would be nice.

Curious as to whether or not your thyroid has been removed.I'm sure your doctor as told you about the importance of iodine in your diet. Some good sources of iodine would be and kind of fish, eggs, and dairy. Most importantly, is that you say you are under treatment with your doctor. As far as weight gain and hair loss, try not to let that upset you. That does not dictate as to what you are as a person. AND smile, try to laugh more; this works wonders and could actually give you a better perspective. All the best to you.....

I can relate. I gained 30 lbs in 6 months after being almost too thin all my life. It took me a long time to finally get a diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Some days it takes all my energy just to keep my eyes open! The list of symptoms for this is a mile long! I hope that you have a good support system around you...having someone who really understands helps so much.
