Indoor Exercises

Hey ladies ;)

So as the winter draws near, so does the bear-like desire for me to prepare for hibernation. All I want to do is eat and sleep! (Although, to be perfectly honest, these symptoms are year-round)

What are some exercises you guys do that require minimal equipment but still gets your heart pumping?

Vigourous housecleaning on Nov 09, 2010 @ 01:20 pm

If I'm alone (and that is a mandatory requirement), I'll put on thumping music and clean like a Tasmanian devil. I shimmy to the music and it really gets my heartrate going. I also love that I get a ton accomplished!

Of course if I'm ever alone, I usually don't want to clean house and would rather read a book. So I'm working on that one ;)

And so am I because that is my trick too. I'm German. I like a good clean house.

I submit to you my evidence:

Cleaning is a calorie burner on Nov 10, 2010 @ 11:30 am

You really can burn a lot of calories cleaning! I found this list of calories burned per half hour of doing these chores:
  • Vacuuming — between 75 and 125 depending how vigorous you are!
  • Making beds — 70
  • Cooking — 40–50
  • Raking leaves — 110
  • Lawn mowing — between 150 and 225 depending on how much you have to push it!
As for actual exercising: I never have any motivation to exercise when I am at home so in the winter I usually try and practice yoga, take spinning classes, go swimming at a local pool. At my house, we have an exercise room that's been collecting dust since about 2 months after putting it together. It's just sooo hard to be motivated when you are alone in a room!

Yoga! on Nov 15, 2010 @ 10:15 am

I hate going to the gym so I started yoga from http://www.yogatic.com/

To get motivated, I just hop on the scale. It works every time.

This lady literally changed my life. I can stretch and move certain parts I never thought I'd be able to. Now I never have to leave my room! =)

I'm going to have to try being more vigorous with my vacuuming, though. 125 calories is pretty good!

@annav, did you buy the DVD, or do you just go through the short vids every day or something??

I didn't buy the dvd, she has all the videos on her website for free and on youtube, too!

Oh and yes, I go through some of the videos everyday. I started with the Yoga for Weight loss and some of the arm/lower body exercises. I've been doing it for a couple of months so now I kind of mix it up myself, too.
