Hi all, I recall reading the reviews on Nalgene bottles on this site, which means that lots of you here like to use this product. So, it'd be important for everyone to know that MEC has just removed all Nalgene plastic bottles and food containers from their stores because the plastic contains Bisphenol-A. There are many conflicting studies done about its effect on health, but nothing with enough authority to ban the use of this chemical in plastics. By 2009 though, Health Canada will finally release a report on Bisphenol-A. In the meantime, it might be safer to just put your bottles in storage until further notice.
This is the Globe & Mail article on the issue: http://tinyurl.com/38zegq

I was wondering when stores were going to start doing that. Thanks for letting us know Samuraiya! Guess I'll be chucking mine!

Seriously! If you plan on tossing your nalgene bottles, let me know! I'd love to take them off your hands. I'll pay shipping!! I love my nalgenes and don't buy into this hype.
For whatever its worth, here's Nalgene's info page on BPA:

I agree with Khourianya and Misschickie... I knew this was gonna happen soon. I wonder if Nalgene is going to have some sort of recall/refunds?
They are gonna come up with something safer now, I can't imagine how much money they've lost because of this!
It scares me because I see Nalgene bottles used EVERYWHERE by students on campus!
I have a friend who would use a glass bottle from juice to carry around his water because of the chemicals from plastic. I think glass is the safest, unfortunately they are not very practical.
SIGG bottles sound interesting... maybe I'll check those out.

I bought a SIGG on friday night - already majorly in love with it (and I have beena dedicated Nalgene user for well over 10 years). They have so many funky designs that it is easy to find one that suits your personality. I am actually thinking that I will buy a second one to keep at work (and that is really saying something because they aren't exactly cheap)

I switched to Kleen Kanteen myself.

FYI, Nalgene has put out a new line of clear (color tinted) plastic bottles that use a different, BPA free, plastic. I received one for my bday and it seems just as good. So don't run away from Nalgene altogether. They've answered the call for alarm. Expect to see the everyday Nalgene bottles in stores soon, if not already. I know REI already stocks them.
