My period is 7 days late with a negative HTP, help!

I have always had a very regular period, a 28 day cycle every time, like
clock work.  Recently, I've had some longer, random cycles.  A couple
of months ago it was 29 days, last month it was 32 days.  Now, I am
currently 7 days late from my last cycle, which would put me at a 38 day
cycle.  I've taken two HPT so far and they've both said negative.  One
when it was 4 days late and one when I was 6, both taken first thing in
the morning.  I havent had many PMS or pregnancy signs.  I do feel a
little bloated and moody, but aside from that nothing.  I havent had any
spotting or unusual discharge.  Could I be pregnant? Has anyone else
had this happen and then gotten their period?

Silly periods on Apr 18, 2012 @ 03:21 pm

Our bodies are so mean sometimes! They keep us guessing all the time it seems - weird random periods, weird symptoms, make us think we're pregnant, but then the tests tell us no. Sometimes periods are on track and sometimes they are all over the place.

You're at the point where if you were pregnant it will probably show up on a test. So it could be that your period is just crazy right now for some reason. Even little things can mess it up, like stress or a change in habit. If it still doesn't come in a few more days and a home test is still negative, I'd go to the doctor and ask for a blood test just to be sure.

At this point, don't worry. Sometimes things like this just happen! I had a friend who completely skipped a period altogether one month but she was not pregnant. Then the next month everything was normal again. So weird. Our anatomy and physiology is so messed up!

Blah periods. on Apr 18, 2012 @ 04:58 pm

There is a high chance that you might be pregnant.

They say wait a week or so until you do a pregnancy test (day 7 or after your missed period).

I'd also go see a doctor if your periods have been abnormal lately and to take a blood pregnancy test (because those are the most accurate ones). It could also just be stress and or other current factors in your life that's affecting your cycle.

I know sometimes if I do a long workout close to my period, then it comes, so you can always give that a shot!

Best of luck :)

Still the waiting game... on Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:49 pm

Thank you guys for the replies. Yes, recently, a new guy has been added to our office team and its been making my life hell for the last month. I'm hoping its just the stress that caused me to delay or miss a period, though, I would hate to shrug it off as that and really be pregnant. I took another test (8 days late) and still nothing. I suppose I'll take another tomorrow at 10 days if it doesnt come.

I think the most important thing is that you not stress out about this.
Stress only makes things worse!
Plus stress always messes up my periods too and i'm on birth control :/
Every time i've had that little panic I never ended up being pregnant.
Are you eating enough? Diet is very important too!
Take care of yourself and if you can't shake the panic and don't want to see your family doctor about it, drop by a walk in clinic!

could be... on Apr 20, 2012 @ 03:49 pm

It could also be due to some sort of hormone imbalance. Sometimes something as simple as having a tad too much testosterone or progesterone can mess you up good! I have the opposite problem where, if I don't take my birth control pills regularly, I get my period every 2 weeks! No fun! Go to the doc to rule such things as hormone, PCOS, and other probs that come up as we age! A simple blood tests or ultrasound can give you an answer! Stress can add to these too! So maybe do something to de-stress too! :)

Women or weight change? on Apr 20, 2012 @ 05:00 pm

If you are around a lot of the same women for a lot of the time (especially living or working with) then your bodies tend to 'sync up.' Also if you have lost or gained a significant amount, then that could also effect your cycle. IMHO if at 10 days there is still nothing, then please make an appointment with a physician. They can order blood tests (which are more accurate than 'pee' tests) and/or ultrasounds. I have had nurses tell me those HPTs give a lot more false negatives, as they do NOT want ANY false positives,

UPDATE: Well I have taken several more HPT and a couple of EPT and still all negative. I also went to the health clinic for a blood test and found out today the results: Negative. Still no sign of my period but I guess it really was just stress in the office that caused me to skip. I am happy to have the blood test results and know that its not just a faulty HPT negative! :)

I suggest you make an apt with you Gino changes in periods should be looked into it might simply be change in hormones or stress related or other factors however there are other reasons for changes and I suggest just a quick consult to ensure everything is ok. It took me about a month to get a positive pregnancy test with my first child, however blood test is pretty accurate so now that that's ruled out maybe investigate why the sudden change to your menstural cycle.

I was 7 days late, super scared that i was pregnant because i'm very young. I took two tests, both negative. My stressing caused my period to be late. The doctor said so. But i started my period first thing in the morning! I will make sure to do another test after my peeiod just to be 100% im not pregnant.
