This is my favorite cookie recipe of all time. My Oma made them for us as kids and still does from time to time.

2/3 Cup Brown Sugar
3/4 Cup Butter
1 Egg
2 Cups Oatmeal
2/3 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
salt (less than a pinch)
2 tsp vanilla extract (use the real stuff )
Chocolate Chips - as many as you want (I use dark chocolate)

Bake at 350 for about 10 min.

There is nothing like a good cookie recipe...and I love oatmeal and chocolate chips...a winning combination! I am definitely going to have to give this a try!

Misschickie, what kind of oatmeal did you use?

Quick cooking, or regular???

Regular Oatmeal on Feb 22, 2007 @ 03:32 pm

It doesn't really matter - just don't use the instant stuff that comes in those little single use packets. I generally use regular Quaker Oats. Hope you like 'em!

Made them today.. on Feb 26, 2007 @ 10:17 pm

I made these cookies today. Delicious! My mother thought they were too sweet though. I might cut back on the sugar next time.

I put in some dried cranberries in with the chocolate chips, and it was really good. I also took another batch (separated the dough) and mixed in some butterscotch chips with the chocolate ones. Butterscotch and dried cranberries taste really bad together.

The only thing is that if you shape them into balls and you like flat cookies, then you might have to squish them down with a fork or something. Then they become cookie balls, but they still taste the same.

Great recipe!

I love the idea of the cranberries. I'm surprised they were sweet though. I find they not sweet compared to most recipes which call for more sugar, but yes, they are more ball shaped because of all the oatmeal so they don't flatten like most recipes.

I love the modifications you made. I'll have to try that!
