Drat! I managed to get poison oak ... again! For those of you back east, poison oak (PO) is poison ivy's meaner, nastier cousin. I contracted it a while ago (~2-3 wks), just one small patch on the top of my foot, right where my chaco sandal strap crosses my foot. So I washed my sandals, sheets, socks, clothes, you name it! Now that patch is all healed but the PO has spread, and the heels of my feet are the worst. Obviously something is still contaminated w/ PO oils. I think I've tied it to my rock climbing shoes. You wear them barefoot and I probably keep exposing my skin to the oils each time I climb, which is A LOT. So I just got done taking a tooth brush and bleach to my climbing shoes!! Who cares what my shoes look like, as long as they quit spreading PO!! I hope that does the trick.
Grrr, PO, what a pain. Got any PO or poison ivy stories or suggestions?

I don't have any stories of my own or any real advice except that maybe calamine lotion would help somewhat? It works for poison ivy...

After being affected by this for almost 3 weeks now, I finally got myself to the doctor. I'd been using a cortisone cream and taking benadryl, but w/ little to no relief. I haven't slept much beyond 3 hrs each night b/c my histamines go wild at night and my feet are ON FIRE. So I grab ice packs from the freezer and pack them around my feet. They provide some good relief, but at the expense of a different kind of discomfort. So I'd had enough and visited the doctor. I got a steroid injection in my rump and a prescription for a topical steroid cream. I should be feeling MUCH better in about 5 days.

I haven't tried it myself, but heard buttermilk soaks help; and oats have a long history of helping skin issues.
Are you feeling better now ? Let me know if not, and I'll research it further.

Thanks ladies. I am on the mend. Last Monday, the 3rd, was my first full night's sleep in quite a while. I've been sleeping like doll ever since. But, being as active outdoors as I am, I'm doomed to get the ol' PO yet again, at which point I'll be willing to entertain anything to feel better!
