Has anyone else done the master cleanse? I am currently doing it and on day #5. I would love to hear your experiences with it!

For those of you that are not familiar with this cleanse, read more about it at this link. It's super old, and I have met quite a few people that have tried it, but am always curious to learn others' experiences with it!

I'm cautious about any kind of a cleanse that encourages use of laxatives to purge your system. I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, so it might well be perfectly okay to do this. But I personally shy away from that sort of thing.

I have done liquid fasts where you drink tons of water, clear broths and herbal teas. You end up emptying your system out anyway because you're not taking in solids, and that without using a medication.

However, I have only done this once or twice a year (and lately not at all).

I have done the master cleanse 2 times. The Master Cleanse has been around a long time since about the 1950s!But I had the actual book by Stanley Burroughs who created this fast and the book is more detailed. He does suggest the salt wash(as a laxative)but I could never do that method it was awful!!!The only other suggestion was a herbal laxative tea(which has Senna Leaf) from a reputable health food store all natural ingriedents. The article you have says to use a laxative not specifying what kind. Now that scares me!There are some very powerful laxatives on the market that are going to make you sick if that's what your taking. You need a gentle tea like the original has suggested.

I also read your link very quickly but I do not see the measurements/amounts your supposed to use to make the lemonade drink. The book is pretty precise with how much they want you to measure the ingredients.Ten days is a long time to do this if your not doing it right.I really would advise you unless you already have it to try get the original book/instructions.

The Cleanse if done properly is very effective and you do feel good but you have to be very careful getting back onto solid foods as well after doing a fast. Both times before I did this fast I took my time and read the whole book which is really detailed as I mentioned and explains everything in great detail.Stanley Burroughs is the original author and creator of this fast.Be sure you have the right one! There are lots of copycats!Good luck.

I have.. on Feb 01, 2011 @ 04:40 pm

I read a lot about it and lots of people swear by it. So I gave it a try, and lasted all of 3 days! Everywhere I read says that the 3 day was the 'big bump' after which it was supposed to get easier, unfortunately the 3rd day did me in.

Dolce, please let me know how it goes for you!! I'd love to give this another try :)

Made my goal on Feb 01, 2011 @ 04:47 pm

@becky. So, when I started it out, I wanted to do it for 5 days, even though the cleanse is for 10. I am happy to say that I achieved my goal :) Next time, I will definitely do it for 10 days or more.

For me, it really was not hard to stay on it. I never felt hungry, and my energy levels were higher than usual (which I was apprehensive about when I started because I am anemic)

Becky, If you ever want to try it out again, let me know- we can start on the same day and support each other :) I loved the feeling of it!

done it several times.... on Feb 01, 2011 @ 06:49 pm

and liked it. I wasn't really doing it for weight loss...I really needed a good cleaning-and I got it.

The weird thing is that I really like his 'concoction' and I drink it on a regular basis. To me it tastes good (cold or hot).

I've done it once! on Feb 01, 2011 @ 11:09 pm

I really liked this cleanse. I did it for the weight loss, and stuck by it and lost about 10 pounds in one week. I didn't gain the weight back at all so it was great. I found that my skin was glowing and I was much more energized.

What was ironic was that I cooked the most fabulous meals for my brothers and boyfriend during the week that I couldn't eat and I wasn't even tempted to eat it either.

I think I would do it again if I was really determined to lose weight again.

Dolce, did you do it to lose weight?

So much Energy on Feb 02, 2011 @ 12:02 am

@meredith- I think it tastes so good too!! I have been drinking it for a few years now too, but never opted to do the cleanse till recently.

@asiangoddess- I did it for cleansing purposes (although weight loss is always a bonus!) It was amazing though- I felt SO energized, as I mentioned before. I never felt like I was depriving myself (no hunger), and I sat at a huge family dinner on my 3rd day and was not tempted to eat anything! I loved it!

I will definitely be doing this cleanse again, but next time I will do the full 10 days or more!

I'm surprised to hear you had a lot of energy doing this cleanse. I've heard from people who cut all carbs out of their diet that it makes you really moody - so I would have expected this to do the same.

Do you feel better/notice any difference now that you've done it?

@Dolce: I would LOVE to do this cleanse with you!!! I did it last time with a friend too but we both sorta gave up. I lasted a day more than her out of spite, at least that's what she thinks!! lol. It was really hard, but maybe I didn't make the concoction properly?

Can you share the measurements you used when making it so I can make sure I'm doing it right? I researched a lot on the net and used the most common measurements (not sure what that was off the top of my head).

Also, one of my lovely supervisors at the time found my drink in the fridge and brought it to where I sat (i'm the only girl in my team) and started making fun of how I'm drinking pee to lose weight. That's another reason I quit pretty fast.

I would love to start this on a Friday. How do you feel about next week Friday: February 18th? Let me know. xoxo :)

Becky,

The measurements I used were the ones from Stanley Burroughs' book. 2tblsp of freshly squeezed lemon and 2 tblsp of natural maple syrup to 1 cup of water, with cayenne to taste (I like to put tons in!).

I would love to do it again soon! Feb 18th it is :) I'm quite excited- I want to do the full cleanse this time: 10 days, and include the Senna tea because last time I did not incorporate a herbal laxative. I will NOT be doing the salt water flush again though.

Xo. Can't Wait :) Will you be prepping your eating before we start? I.e. juicing or eating raw?
