Just last week my friend and I were discussing this,it definitely scares me and really made me think twice ,now I'm talking to other friends to get their views too

I've never used them, but I know it's soooo common nowadays. It makes me so mad that they say using natural cotton could fix this completely, yet these companies don't care.
Women are always getting shafted on stuff like this. We can't control it, so they tax us on those products and now they're even hurting us by refusing to make them safe!
Sorry if I sound angry, I've been seeing women lose a lot of healthcare rights lately in the US and it's riling me up >_<;

Hey don't apologize for feeling the way you do,I feel the same way,its not right when stuff like this happens

I read the article as well really had me quite upset to. I must admit I do use them still but I just can stand pads

In the US they wear a what they call Impressa,it's for incontinence in women.You wear it like a Tampon and you can only wear it for eight hours,then it has to be removed.It speaks about this TSS and it sounds pretty scary.What you do is you insert it like a Tampon and it suppose to align your Bladder so you don't have Bladder Leakage.Apparently I was reading the news a couple of days ago and it said,this product made by the same ones who makes the Poise.Apparently it said that it is now available here in Newfoundland at Wal-Mart.This sounds awfully scary to me.What are they thinking, when they make something that suppose to be for women with Bladder Leakage,yet,it can cause something like this to happen?What do they think that we as women are, just a piece of meat that you can do anything with it?This makes my blood boil with anger.This Impressa can cause this TSS.A chance you take.

There are other options you can consider too, have you ever heard of a mooncup, I know quite a few ladies who like them. Also if it's the plasticky feeling of pads that bother you, you can use natural ones.
It's definitely a personal choice, but as women we have to put pressure on these companies, there's almost no risk if they switch to full cotton and then everyone can use tampons if they want!

I get so mad too! The reality is that because the percentage of people who develop problems is small, it's not enough for them to change their bottom line. And not everyone has money to buy the more expensive natural products. If this was a product for men, I'm sure something would have been done, but so many products pushed at women are dangerous.
For example, douches are marketed heavily to keep you 'clean' down there, but all you need is to shower. Women's genitals and our natural processes are not dirty and douches can cause infections.
It's so normal to be angry when women are suffering in these ways and the companies aren't listening. The good news is this young girl's mother suing kotex could lead to change over time. In the meantime I'd advise everyone to email or write to Kotex, or tweet the article at them asking them to switch to 100% cotton in their tampons, maybe we can make them take notice!

I don't get periods anymore. I had endometrial ablation, two d&c;'s and tubal ligation three years ago because of severe dysmenorrhea to the point where I almost hemmorhaged enough to need a blood transfusion. But I did wear tampons and TSS was always a scare for me even though I bled so much I had to change every hour even with a pad on too. I am so glad these days are over for me. I do remember trying the cup though. Aren't those still on the market? In any Case, the manufacturers should be using the safest materials for women in these products. It's just not right to take our safety into their incompetent hands.

Cups are still around Greek! But it can be uncomfortable for some women.
You're absolutely right, women deserve more! Sorry to hear about your health problems :(
