Urinary Tract Infection/Bladder Infection

As romantic as the notion is of lying in each other's arms after sex, did you know that what you should really be doing is going for a post sex pee? It flushes away some of the bacteria that might have gotten up there while you got busy.

I know this is kind of gross topic, but for anyone who has had a bladder infection you've probably had this embarrasing conversation with your Doctor. It is extremely painful and feels like the most painful full bladder you've ever had - and yet you can't relieve it.

I was reminded of this the other day when a friend of mine mentioned she might have a bladder infection and was surprised to learn she didn't know about the post sex pee rule.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of women don't know about it - so pass this on to your girls ;)

Yup! Pee after sex, even if you don't feel like you have to pee. I got a mild bladder infection years ago and a friend of mine told me the cranberry juice remedy. So if you get a minor infection and are embarrassed, or don't want to see a doctor (though you should if its a serious infection), learn to love cranberry juice. Drink several full glasses a day for about 1 week and you'll be all set. And remember, pee after sex!!

I have been unfortunate enough to get a UTI twice....definitely NOT fun, I think it's the most pain I've ever been in. So yes, drink lots of cranberry juice and always pee afterwards!
But, another important thing to remember is, DO NOT DIAGNOSE YOURSELF!!
Even if you have had one before and think the symptoms are the same, still go to the doctor in case it is something different/worse!

Also, if you are unlucky enough to get one, even though it's annoying having to go to the bathroom all the time, do not hold it in because that will just make the infection worse.

Blueberries are even better ! on May 05, 2007 @ 12:25 pm

Recent studies reveal that blueberries work also ! I can't remember the specifics, but I think they're supposed to be more potent than cranberries. Blueberry pruducts are easy to find (muffins, yogurt, pies, dried, frozen) you don't get all that sugar that's used to sweeten tart cranberries !

That sounds great! I love blueberries. Hopefully I never get another urinary tract infection, but if I do, I"ll keep that in mind.

(blueberries are better than cranberries in my world.)

I went through a year of a UTI every 3 months. i thought it was related to my cycle, my job in a chair (web stuff), my birth control. My nurse practitioner told me to pee every hour, and for 3 months i damn peed every single stupid hour! even at disney world!

and it turned out No ONE told me to PEE AFTER SEX. I finally read it on webmd, my zillionth time on webmd after bladder infection after kidney infection, and many rounds of antibiotics and over $100 of penicillin.

UGH

So yes, pee after sex!! And if you think you really have a UTI, go to a doctor, don't drink juice for a week and wait for it to travel up to your kidneys and double over in pain.
ANd it's hard to find 100% cranberry juice anyway, it's usually a 100% fruit juice blend that contains some cranberry. Just put frozen (defrosted) blueberries in your blender with apple juice. AFTER going to the doctor.

Sugar and yeast make bread rise . . . on Sep 15, 2007 @ 03:51 am

Okay now that I have your attention ;-)

If you also think you may have a yeast infection going on - LAY OFF THE PROCESSED SUGAR !

Most of your cranberry juices are loaded with processed sugar and if you've ever baked your own bread, you know it takes sugar to react chemically with the yeast to make bread rise.

I think you get the picture . . .

oh the pain on Nov 15, 2007 @ 02:07 pm

i went through about 3 months of painful UTI's when the pharmacist noted that i get these pretty often. he suggested cranberry pills which are a godsend. just keep some in the cubard, i also find it can stop a full blown UTI if you can catch it while its still early.

along with the post sex pee, if my event was uh, crazy, then i just pop a couple of cran pills just in case.
