Don't Tell Anyone But... on Jan 17, 2011 @ 02:57 pm
This is probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures. Though I haven't quite figured out why I love it so much yet.
I started watching the first season because I was intrigued about the concept of the show and I haven't missed a season since (16 and Pregnant or Teen Mom)

I watched a marathon once of one of the seasons (I think it was the first). It really is addictive, and I can see why people keep watching. But, I just couldn't help but feel so bad for those girls...all of them were so immature and completely unfit to raise a child. Lately, I have seen pictures in Gossip magazines of one of the girls on the season I had seen with tag lines like " She's dating a child molester" :|! anyways, so she has not only gotten pregnant but now she is a Z-list celeb...I just wonder what will happen to her now..

Dolce, I saw the magazine covers too. I think it's really bad that the magazines have picked up the stories and started to advertise the lives of these girls. Although most of the articles are not flattering they are still glamourizing teen pregnancy (which was never the intention of the show itself)

So many of these girls were so horrible to their mothers or boyfriends it was uncomfortable to watch, but I like the Leah, twins and Corey story.
My Birth Control on Jan 17, 2011 @ 06:17 pm
I watch this show almost religously. Even though I'm nearing 30, these stories are my personal birth control. I have graduated high school, college, and I have a stable job, but I would NEVER want to go through any of what these girls have faced. I really enjoyed the first season on Teen Mom, but I'm not too sure about this new season. That one chick, Janelle, needs to have her butt spanked real good by her mom. I don't see how someone could treat their mom so badly when they still live at home and go out partying every night...sigh

brebre83 I was thinking the same thing. I thought a few of them could use some spanking!
shows purpose on Jan 18, 2011 @ 10:58 am
As I said, I only watched a few episodes of this show one day, but I was confused about the purpose of it. For some I think it could act as a 'birth control' as brebre83 said, but for other naive girls, I feel like it would glamorize being young and pregnant.

I think the purpose of the show was to show teen pregnancy for exactly what it is, in a variety of settings. The show tried to pick girls with a wide variety of personalities in different social groups and economic classes to convey the point that teen pregnancy can happen to anybody (well girls).
At the beginning/end of each commercial break there is a reminder that "teen pregnancy is preventable ... go to itsyoursexlife.ca for more information" and in Leah's season they had a number of adds for help regarding abusive relationships.
I think the problem is that it got so popular that mass media picked it up and things spun out of control (like they often do when you are dealing with A) Teens B) People who became famous from a reality series C) Baby-Mama-Drama
I like it and am watching it tonight.... on Jan 18, 2011 @ 08:46 pm
I like the show...and have been watching it since it came on the air.
I adore the couple that adopted their baby Carly (Caitlyn and Tyler). I really hope they stay together. Their story always brings tears to my eyes...for younger people, I feel they are the couple that truly understood what it takes to be parents, knew they couldn't do it at that moment in time, and made an awesome decision for their daughter. It would make me cry to see Caitlyn verbally abused by her mother, but I love how strong she is.
The show really uncovers the life of young mothers. I hate that the tabloids have abused and taken advantage but I hope the show goes on!

I don't follow the show, but have seen an episode or two. My only problem with the show is that it seems to convey the message to young girls out there that if you have a baby really young then you can have a shot at fame.
It's just like Jersey Shore. Those kids are earning millions of dollars in endorsements for acting stupid on national tv.
