I'd say $30-50 is a good bet.

As someone who's been pregnant and received showers/gifts, let me encourage you to try something a little different. I received SO many undershirts and receiving blankets that I really didn't get around to using them before the little tyke outgrew everything. Same goes for outfits, so if you must get a little outfit, consider buying in a larger size that will not be outgrown so quickly, at least 6 months size or bigger. My best advice would be to get together with other girlfriends and buy a larger item that is really needed, such as a highchair or playpen. Other than that, think about a pampering gift for the mom-to-be. Feet swell really badly in the final weeks of pregnancy, so how about a pedicure or prenatal massage voucher? Maybe a mom-and-baby aquasize class (babies as young as 6 months can participate) to help mommy lose those baby pounds. Whatever you do, it will be more memorable than a package of 15 bibs and yet another teething ring.

What gift would you get for a newborn across the country? Do you mail something average sized or give someone a gift certificate for a store in their city. Is that impersonal? I live in Ontario and the baby will be born in BC! Any thoughts or opinions?
