Does anyone have a tested recipe for homemade insect repellent for toddlers?  I found a few recipes online that uses natural oils but I want to know if someone actually tried it and found one that works.

I'd be interested to hear responses to this one too. Though I'm not so handy with homemade.

Foam stickers on Jul 15, 2011 @ 04:07 pm

The only store I know that sells natural insect repellent for toddlers is currently out of stock and they are not sure when they'll get more. The girl there told me I can make my own with essential oils. I have read that many times before but never tried it myself. That's why I am asking if anyone has a tested recipe they can share. :)

My friend also told me about these foam stickers that you stick on their clothing and it worked well for her son when he was a baby. Does anyone know where I can find those foam stickers?

I'm interested in this too. I don't have a kid but I do have a dog and cat so I figure they would work the same way...if they're good with toddlers, they should generally be okay with pets.

Essential oils bugs dont like

Peppermint
Eucalyptus
Lemon grass
Tea Tree oil
Lavender
Rosemary

Get a spray bottle add water ad a bit of a base oil like almond oil here are a few recipes

add to water and oil base(almond) 6 drops peppermint,6 drops eucalyptus and 8 drops of tea tree oil and spray.

I also like to add a bit of aloe Vera to the bottle you can also buy citronella essential oil and use that.

I'd like to try those! on Jul 15, 2011 @ 04:34 pm

Bren, thanks so much for the tips! I'd like to experiment with this as well. I'm so sensitive to scents right now that I can't really handle citronella or those doodoo coil thingies. I'd much rather try an essential oil and see how that works.

I just get small spray bottle from the dollar store approx 120 ml.I fill the bottle with water.Add a few drops of your oils 4-6 drops depends on how many oils you want to add to the water. If I'm using 3 or more oils I would add about 6 drops of each.Right now I have spray bottle of just water and tea tree oil in my fridge and it works great! Not only does it keep the mosquitoes away but its so refreshing and cool on a hot day to spray myself with.Safe on your face and anywhere. So you dont need tons of different oils just find one you like and use that.
