As you're aware of baby's finger and toe nails should be kept trim, even though they are fragile. It's best not to use clippers or scissors. Just bite them away gently. Much safer and recommendable

Personally, I am against biting off their nails, simply because our mouth is so germ infested that if we would mistakenly cause a laceration, the germs could cause infections, some that could be very serious. That's a risk I wouldn't want to take.

If the baby is squirming all the time and this makes you nervous to cut them with a nail cutter or file, another suggestion would be to place mittens on their hands for the time being and wait until they are sleeping and then cut them.

I respect your input prettyraimbow However, as most medical practicioners recommend this method.just thought I'd pass it on. We all can't agree all the time.

That's true... It surprises me though that pediatricians would recommend doing this. However, if doctors are recommending this, I'm sure there are lots of mothers out there who are doing this and their babies are just fine. Maybe I'm being too paranoid, but I still don't think I would take that risk. It's a personal choice, I guess... Thanks for bringing up the topic. It's an interesting one!

No,prettyrainbow you're not paranoid. There is nothing wrong with your preference, and I like your input. You are going to do what you think is right, and you are to be commended; stick to your choices, noone elses.

I enjoyed reading both of you opinions on the subject. Not having my own children I am not sure of the answer I am going to ask my sister what she did. Have a nice night. Everyone.

Yes I agree with you it is much safer for the baby so they don't scratch themselves.

Hope you're not upset; not worth it. Just do whatever you feel is the best. Look it up; it's not meant for everyone. Just mentioned it because a lot of people do this. Sorry blubie
