My baby is just over 6 months old. I usually have to sing her to sleep. She hates to be rocked too! Should I be putting her in her crib and letting her fall asleep on her own? I tried today and after an hour and twenty minutes she finally fell asleep. I felt so bad because she cried and screamed then finally just fell asleep. What did you do mamas? I just feel she needs to learn to go to sleep on her own but I don't know if it is too early to do that.

I think this falling asleep on their own is really up to you to decide what you want. They say if you want them to fall asleep on their own start by placing them half asleep in their crib. That's what I did. You can start by signing then placing her in the crib and continue singing and then leave the room or stay for a while. Others believe in letting the child cry. I think it's up to you. I never did this.
My son is 9 month old and he usually falls asleep at nighttime on his own but we are still working on nap time. So to me I think it just takes time. I think it should be a gradual thing. To me they are learning about the world little by little. So we just have to be patient.

What worked for me was putting on beautiful soft music. Sometimes I would put on ocean sounds, classical, etc. Hope all goes well.

Thanks ladies. I tried today and the first time it took an hour and the second time only 15 minutes. She cried a bit then just fell asleep. She had a long nap too!

Such an important skill for baby to be able to fall asleep on their own. I didn't sleep train my first and her sleep patterns were awful until nearly 2 and I was exhausted! I've sleep trained my second and I'm so glad I did. We hit bumps in the road with it at times but overall we are all much more rested. Good luck!

I feel this is up to the parent. I myself had no problem (overprotective I guess) and always let mine fall asleep with me and then placed them in the crib. You just do what you think is the best and what makes you the happiest and the most comfortable.
