For all the Mommies out there, when did your little one(s) begin to walk?? My daughter did at 13 months, but my son is now going on 14 months and has no desire to even start!! Were any of YOUR babies late?? I know the docs say its normal up until 16 months, but I think its pretty normal for me to be worrying a bit!

We are actually going through the same thing right now. My son was walking at 13 months, but my 15 month old daughter is still not walking. She can stand perfectly, but she refuses to take a step. I'm worried as well, but the doctors don't seem to think there's a problem. I was actually told not to worry until she's 18 months, but I've been worried since she was 14 months.

Any progress? on Jan 03, 2012 @ 02:33 pm

Your welcome! My daughter took her first steps on Christmas day. She's wobbling around and taking about 10-20 steps at a time. She'll be 16 months old next week. All I hear from my husband is: "See? You were worrying for nothing, I told you she's fine" Humph, easy for him to say, lol!

Yaaaaay!!! So happy that ur little girl made it!!! Thats great news :) My little guy has yet to start taking a step, but ive started keeping his shoes/boots on him at all times (obvi aside fm bed lol) to attempt to strengthen his ankles to be able to stand on his own longer...slowly but surely, it seems to be helping!

Development differs on Jan 03, 2012 @ 04:26 pm

I am not a mom, but my first placement was in pediatrics... boys typically develop later than girls do in pretty much everything. Also, every child is unique and does their own thing at their own time... it might be hard not to compare, because most parents do it...but don't compare your daughter's developmental milestones to your sons... Try some weight bearing exercises, like pressing against his feet with your hand and adding more resistance as you see fit.
Your son will be walking in no time!

I have boys and a girl, and birth order also plays a part!

My daughter walked right around 12 months. My first son was born 5 years later and walked around 14 or so? (had no interest in his big sis, by the way) Then my second son was born just under 2 years later and was so desperate to catch up to big bro that he walked at 11 months.

I had another friend whose son didn't walk or hardly stand until 19 months and she was really freaking out! He wasn't even crawling, just kind of scooting along on his rear. But when he was ready, he just stood up and ran. Didn't have hardly any wobbly intermediate time and has been terrorizing the house ever since!

I think it's a little early to be truly worried. Your son is still right where he should be. Don't pay any attention to grandmas or friends who claim their babies walked at 6 or 9 months. Every kid is different and your son will walk when he's ready, not a moment sooner (and thus begins a life of rascally behaviour but it's all good!)

one more thing on Jan 03, 2012 @ 05:25 pm

You are right to at least wonder what's going on. I think every good mother tries to foresee issues so that she can deal with them head on instead of being in denial. Nothing wrong with fretting a little as long as you keep your cool :)

Again, thank you soooo much to all you wonderful ladies for all your advice and support!! It DOES make me feel better :) im glad this site exists with all of you cuz in the non-internet world, my circle of friends is very small and are childless and my family just continues to push the issue as a problem constantly!! So thank you again :) xx

One more thing, I've only been a Mom for 5 1/2 years, but one thing I've learned is to trust your Mama instinct. It sounds like your son is lucky to have such a concerned Mama as you are!

UPDATE on Jan 04, 2012 @ 06:51 pm

Sooooo I have some GREAT news!!! My son has his Neurology appointment today at the Hospital and the doctor said he was PERFECT!! He explained that since Maddox (my son) has always been delayed in doing things (ie, rolled over at 9 months, sat at 11 months, scooted (his way of crawling) only a month ago, etc), it is normal for HIM. In other words, as long as hes progressing over time and hitting milestones gradually, everything is okay. He explained Maddox just has his own agenda, and after an hour and a half of extensive tests, he believes he will be walking within the month....SOOOOO HAPPY and *RELIEVED*!!!
