After the final hockey game, Canuck fans went out onto the streets of Vancouver with a not-so-graceful reaction...
Some men were beaten, and stabbed.
Windows were broken, and more than 100 patients were treated from the riot.
In my opinon, the canucks went just a little too far...

I'd like to hear what everyone's reaction was to the big game? Anyone hear of some other crazy stories of the riot?
They went way to far!! on Jun 16, 2011 @ 02:10 pm
All it took was a couple of moron's to not only make Vancouver look bad,
but Canada. This has gone all over the world now and all it does is make
us look like sore losers. I've never understood why people do things
like this and I hope they were all caught on camera so they can go to
jail and have to pay for all the damage they caused. I'm not a big
hockey fan, but I would've like to see the cup come home to Canada like
they did too, but I sure wouldn't have gone crazy like these people did
just because we lost. What ever happened to good sportsmanship. It
make's me mad and sad not only for Vancouver, but for all Canadians.

Unfortunately, the fans' reaction not only was inappropriate and regrettable, it's also making Vancouver look bad. I've heard some of the international reaction to the riots and it's not pretty. Canada has such a great reputation in the world, so it's really sad to see it frittered away over - let's face it - just a game.
Having said that, I was very unhappy about the game's outcome too. However, I feel that the Bruins played better during the entire series and deserved to win. It would have been nice for Vancouver to clinch it, but in this case, the better team got the just desserts. For that reason, I'm happy for Boston while also being sorry for the Canucks.
Contradiction? I don't think so. Feel free to hate on my comment, as long as it's respectfully done ;)

I completely agree with everything you said mamaluv and couldn't have said it any better.

It's a game people. It's only a game. Not worth dying over. Or going to jail. I honestly don't understand being that intense of a fan over anything that you would react that way.
Utterly ridiculous. on Jun 16, 2011 @ 02:31 pm
My husband and I sat there watching the news after the game and were stunned. This is what it's all come to? And over a hockey game. I'm honestly surprised only 100 people were hurt and no one was killed. People were standing right next to burning cars for goodness sake!
There's now a Facebook page called "Vancouver Riot Pics: Post Your Photos". People are actually putting up pictures and evidence of people they know who were involved in the riot and I believe some are going to be prosecuted. Hopefully at least a handful will be charged with criminal activity they committed.
I heard there was a couple having sex in the middle of it all? Not sure if this is rumour but based on what I saw yesterday, I can't say I'd be too surprised.
My mom is American and on her Facebook page this morning she wrote in her status about Vancouver's reaction last night. All of her friends are making comments like "GO USA" and it embarrasses me that I'm Canadian. I think these "fans" have managed to embarrass all of us.
One of the news anchors on CBC commented last night on how Vancouver fans who had gone to Boston for the last game had said that the Boston fans treated them very rudely, had no class, that'd never happen to Boston fans here, etc. He said he could only imagine what Boston, and the rest of the world, can say now about Vancouver fans.
And ya know what the funniest part about all of this is? Boston actually has more Canadian players than Vancouver does...
Boston's Canadian teammates on Jun 16, 2011 @ 02:40 pm
@beachbabe - yes, that's what I heard too! That there are more Canadians on the Bruins team than on Canucks.
I remember from the Oilers/Hurricanes matchup a few years back that it was like that too. Since I happen to live the Carolinas, I felt okay about cheering equally for the Hurricanes and the Oilers. It just felt like a win-win situation for me! The only thing I get really steamed about is during the Olympics. Then it really is "country vs. country", whereas NHL is so mixed that way.
Way too wild on Jun 16, 2011 @ 03:04 pm
I understand that many people are hardcore fans and that they are so happy that a Canadian team has made it that far. But the way they reacted was just ridiculous. I couldn't even believe my ears when I heard about it this morning. You'd think something really bad happened, like an assassination or something. Boston won fair and square and we need to accept that. Now Canadians looks like the biggest sore losers in the world. Way to go Canada...I'm embarrassed and I'm not even a big hockey fan.
A note to add on Jun 16, 2011 @ 09:33 pm
I was just watching the news and they said that some of the rioters aren't even fans. They were disguised as fans and some wore masks and this riot was planned out. This reminds me of G20...

I saw the same thing on our news this morning. They said these people just blended in with everyone that was leaving the game and then they started all this crazy crap. It makes me sick no matter who they are. I just hope they all get caught and have to pay for all the damage they caused!!
Omgosh!!! on Jun 17, 2011 @ 10:41 am
Some people just have no class! Also, anger management anyone? jeez!
@Beachbabe NO way people were actually doing the dirty deed in the riot??? I saw a picture of two people kissing while there was a fire going on behind them, but...gross!!!
