My mom is hard to buy for (material items anyways), she pretty much has what she needs, and always gives the whole "I don't know what I want...don't spend your money". For her, I usually set up a day for us to go have a girls day together. We usually go get manucures and pedicures, and of course, I pick up the tab. If for some reason we can't fit it in to our schedule, I'll pick up a gift card for her favourite clothing store, so she can treat herself to something new.
My dad, we're not very close (I see him a couple times a year, if that), so we don't do the Father's Day thing..so I've never had to think about it.

I don't think i can ever get a giftcard for anyone. The only time i got gift cards was just to get a chance to communicate with the cashier.
I got my mom a massage pad two years ago and i got my mom a small Bear Crystal last year. Maybe i will cook something this year.

I'm usually not big on giftcards either...but like I said, my mom is hard to shop for. I could buy her jewelary, but that will sit in a drawer for years, a massage would be nice, but she gets them free through work. She doesn't need any items for the house, because she already has what she needs. I'm also not going to get her some novelty item she wont use. I'd rather purchase her a gift card to pick out clothing items she wants, we have very different tastes in clothing, and I'd prefer her choose something she likes. I like to be able to treat her to a shopping trip, since a lot of her spending money goes towards my very young siblings.
Of course, like I mentioned though, I prefer to book something for us to get our nails done together when we have time, though of course it just doesn't always work out.

I shop at Winners for my mom. I always find something.
