I always assumed gold medal was made of 22K - 24K gold, silver of silver and bronze of bronze (don't ask what I thought "Bronze" metal is..lol). Agreed, thank goodness for sentimental value! Otherwise, imagine winning a bronze? You spend your entire life and probably all your family savings to be in the olympics only to come home with something that costs less than $5!
