Just wondering if anyone watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing? What did you think of it?
I thought the history show was amazing with the scroll and all. I can't believe they had 2008 people in the show. It was stunning yet kind of intimidating because all 2008 people were perfectly in sync during the performance. If you haven't seen it I think it's definitely worth watching.

Yes, it was one of my favorite opening ceremonies to date. The artistic direction was beyond my expectations. The director really did utilize the strengths of China, which are its people and their solidarity, to produce a show that's both visually and emotionally powerful. The drumming, ink painting/dancing, and taichi segments were most memorable for me.

I didn't watch the opening ceremony but I hear the fireworks that was televised were digitally enhanced. Something about the smog and quality on television?? But I hear the fireworks at the ceremony were spectacular and out of this world!!
I think China has done a superb job on the Olympic facilities though. I was very impressed with the pools, all the different game courses...just totally wowed!!
|missed them! on Aug 12, 2008 @ 11:54 am|
I somehow missed the opening ceremonies and am kinda bummed about it. I've heard from all over that they were really spectacular. Since then, I've had to content myself with hours and hours of hot swimmers... sigh :D

I watched some of the opening ceremonies. We loved the moving boxes the best. Fiance called it that there were people inside them. The order and synchronicity of 2008 people really is a testament to the Chinese culture and their ingrained discipline. I got tired of all the artistry after a while, though, and was looking forward to seeing that athletes march. I only made it through 1/3 of the countries before heading to bed. I was TIRED>

In Toronto it aired at 7am ... and I started watching it sometime around 9. I watched until I saw team Canada's athlete march... and then I went off to do something else!

I'm so happy that Canada is finally getting medals! Go team Canada! :)

|Doesn't it make you want to work out? on Aug 23, 2008 @ 12:16 am|
I feel so inspired watching the olympics. Makes me want to train for something and get really fit. Then I remember I have chocolate icecream in the freezer...

Fiance and I were just discussing that, MC. We wonder 2 things:
1. Are gyms seeing increased usage and membership from people being inspired by the olympics?
2. Are Chinese restaurants seeing increase in patronage w/ all the coverage on Chinese culture and food?

You crack me up, Spotty! Husband and I are talking about going to Vancouver in 2010 - meet us there and we can enjoy some Canadian culture and cuisine!
