Marni Kotak is a Brooklyn performace artist who's planning an at- home birth only her at-home birth is on a stage in front of a live audience.
The performance is called The Birth of Baby X.
Am I the only one who thinks this is beyond crazy???? Would you ever watch something like this? Some critics are arguing that she's exploiting her baby- do you agree?
|yes, this is ridiculous on Oct 17, 2011 @ 05:13 pm|
I think this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It will draw the voyeurs, not art lovers.

I just got goosebumps of disgust ... I mean really? You want to broadcast your labour to rest of the world for publicity? But why?

"Art" is in the eye of the beholder I guess. And those beholders will certainly get an eyeful!

I feel like giving birth is a personal experience to be shared with your husband/boyfriend, or another close family member. And you can never know for sure what's coming. Everybody's experience is so different. That's a very vulnerable position to be in. I don't really think she knows what she's in for!
Doing my obstetrics clinical rotation is intense enough. Definitely wouldn't be interested in watching another one on stage!

Part of me thinks kudos for her for being brave and courageous enough to share that with the world.
I'm of the 'terrified of birth' persuasion. There is blood, guts and all sorts of stuff going on and you're just out there in the open! Can you even imagine that same position with everyone starring at you?! Yikes!
