the new one looks sort of empty ...also it's hard to recognize as 'starbucks'!

I agree, this makes me a little sad. I wonder why they are choosing to go so minimal?
|not just coffee anymore on Jan 06, 2011 @ 05:52 pm|
As I understand it they want to change their logo b/c as a business they are no longer strictly a coffee shop. As a result, they wanted to remove "coffee" from their name. Fine. But why not just keep the 1992 logo and drop the "COFFEE" part?
When I think of Starbucks I think of green and big block letters. I do not think of their symbolic lady locks logo.
|They may sell more than coffee, but... on Jan 06, 2011 @ 06:32 pm|
I see what you're saying, but they are still a "coffee house". And since what they're truly famous for is their coffee, I don't get it. Like, when's the last time anyone said "man, I'm jonesing for cranberry orange scone from Starbucks"?
Okay, bad example. Now I want a cranberry orange scone :/
My point is, there are many other restaurants that sell products beyond the script on their logo. Starbucks actually sells precious little - I go to Panera Bread if I really want to kick back with some real grub.
I read that keeping the Siren (that's what that lady is) is a way of honouring their heritage. Your heritage is coffee, not some mermaid!
Anyway, that's what I think.

Yeah, I don't like it either. I just think that upper level managers want something else to do to look and feel important so they propose a logo change. Look Mr. Manager-CEO-Head Honcho, let your people do their jobs. Don't meddle in their business to feel important. Clearly your business is quite successful - don't fix what isn't broken!

Im not proud of this change.
The cup looks bare and unfinished.
They should atleast keep the "Starbucks" part on the cup and re-add the boarder.

Yesterday at the office we got to check out the new Starbucks cups, we we had mixed opinions on the new design. I'm still not in love with the new 'minimalist' cup (it does have the word "Starbucks" on the back) I like it better than my first reaction to the picture above. What I really liked was the new sleeve design and colour, it's a brighter lime green and the logo is enlarged and stretches across the sleeve.
Has anyone else had Starbucks in a new cup?
