he was taken out of context. However, as a "world leader" he really needs to understand how to speak PR-ese. He should never have made the comparison in the first place, especially since religious issues are always hotly contested.

The issue in my mind, isn't what the pope said because when you look at what his topic was the points he was making it is clear that he wasn't insulting islam. The issue in my mind is why everyone pretends that it is his responsiblity (and the responsibility of every Westerner) to never say anything that could possibly be twisted out of context or made a pre-text for hysteria. Why don't we worry about holding the people responsible who go out and engage in riots and death threats in order to protest the idea that their prophet employed violence in its name.
