Never a cooler, but I have used a bowl of ice in front of a fan. It works quite well.

No,this is the first time I ever heard of home made AC.We have one installed in the house when we built it and I tell you,it is fantastic!!!in the summertime when it is really hot outside.I think the best investment we ever made.I don't like it when it's to hot for comfort.

Blubie, I posted this answer in another forum. Just take a regular fan and place a big bowl of ice cubes in front of it. Turn the fan on high and it will blow the coolest breeze. Another tip, to keep the ice from melting so fast, put rock salt over the ice. That's what they use in the old fashioned ice cream makers to keep the ice from melting so fast. I have done this many times and it has helped so much. Have a great evening, Ginger.

just went camping and made one from a styrofoam cooler. filled it with ice, made 2 holes in the top (one for a little battery operated fan to blow in- and the other a hose where you cold a/c comes out. It worked great!
