Hey ladies,

Just wondering if any one can recommend any advice on what to take for hot flashes. I am pre menopausal. It's horrible. I don't sleep well take 2 showers a day one in the morning and at night. It's not too bad during the day but at night I basically wear my bikini top and my daughter laughs at me.

I don't sleep with covers. I drink lots of water
Any advice is welcome

I've never had experience with this personally, but I know that there are many natural remedies which can help.

For my mother though, nothing helped, so she carried one of those little mini fans everywhere. I know how frustrating it is not being able to sleep, hope you find something that helps!

Aside from hormone replacement therapy which is a treatment with synthetic hormones, there really is not that much. Some things that cause hot flashes are caffeine, smoking, spicy foods, and stress. Layer your clothing preferably cotton to sleep, drink ice water at the start of a flash, perhaps keep an ice pack by your bed. Good luck

A little aside...make sure to mention this to your doctor. While it probably is menopausal symptoms, it can be a thyroid issue as well. Many premenopausal women are misdiagnosed as it is thought to be menopause related.

Hi Cheryl,I was like you with the Hot Flashes, they were driving me nuts.I would have about 20-30 a day.One day I said to myself, enough if enough.I went to my Doctor and she perscribed Venlaflaxine.I was just about gone. Now I take one capsule a day, wholla,no more Hot Flashes. What a difference,I couldn't handle it anymore. The mood swings were driving my Husband nuts and the night sweats were something else.Thank goodness it's all over with now.Talk to your Doctor about it I know it works immediately.Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely see my doctor this week. I do so much laundry it's ridiculous. How long did it take for the medication to start working?
