Scents Of Peace
Easter Egg on Dec 25, 2007 @ 01:48 am

The ring was in an over-sized decorative Easter Egg . . . I wondered why he was on the floor at my feet when he gave me my Easter Basket ???

Years before that though, I was in his feed store griping about the rising cost to feed my livestock when he blurted out " Why don't you just marry the feed store guy ?!?"

I thought he was kidding . . . especially since we had not even dated yet ! But eventually mutual friends pushed us together and less than two weeks after our first date (but more than three years after the above comment) we were living together - and have been in each other's company every day since.

Proposal December 30th 2007 on Jan 05, 2008 @ 12:35 pm

The beach at winter time!? Sounds crazy to me! But on this day we went ot the Pinery for a winter hike, just me and my boyfriend. We are outdoorsy people and always go camping and hiking and exploring, so this was ordinary to me and I didn't know what was coming!
Our hike ended on the beach and it was so beautiful because the waves looked like they were frozen in time. We sat on a log and for a while we were so quiet we couldn't hear a thing. After a long silence his first words were "I lied"... he got down on BOTH knees and explained that he brought me to this very beautiful spot for a reason... to ask me to spend my life with him. I said "yes" right away but appearently it came out as a squeek because he had to ask me again! He stayed on his knees for a long time while it sank in.
I'm an island girl, born and raised in the Caribbean and lover of the sun, sand and sea. He is allergic to the sun and thrives in the dark cold winter.... so this proposal was the perfect mix for us... at the beach on a calm winter day.
Of course I tease him about getting down on BOTH knees.... he was begging ;)

CHAPTER 4 -- The Proposal on Jan 06, 2008 @ 02:25 pm

Geoff proposed a few days before Christmas. We had finished a lovely dinner at Blowfish when he suggested we take a walk. We ended up at Chapters (where we first met). He told me to wait in the magazine section while he went to the restroom. I knew something was up! My suspicions were confirmed shortly when I heard my name being called over the public announcement system and I was instructed to go to the front desk. Okay! Breathe! This is it I was ready to scream YES! but in true Geoff fashion, everything had to be earned. I guess it was his last chance to play hard to get with me. ;-) At the front desk I was handed a red bag and inside was my first clue.

He had set up a SCAVENGER HUNT!

Clue 1: We've been through many challenges together and you've passed them all. So this last challenge should be an easy one: all you need to do is find me. Simply go to where we shared hot chocolates.

Off to the second floor I went. As I made my way closer to the next clue I heard our song (100 years by Five For Fighting) playing throughout the store. I picked up the next clue at the Starbucks counter.

I was having so much fun!!!

Clue 2: Congrats, you are one step closer! Now find the story of The Alchemist. Hurry, even though the song playing says 100 years, you must find me before it ends.

Geoff had given me that book on our first date. I still remember what he wrote on the inside cover: that life was about following your dreams and he wanted to share the journey with me. And what a journey our relationship has been to say the least! I found the next clue in a red envelop taped to the front cover of the book.

Clue 3: You are so close! Now all you have to do is descend like an angel down the escalator as you did the first time you found me and I'll be waiting in the same spot.

As I did just that I was extremely touched at the efforts he put into recreating our first date. I was overwhelmed with fond memories. This final clue brought me to the Chapters Lounge where it all began; a fateful meeting of chance four years ago. This time he was waiting on bended knee. And so our journey continues... As another chapter ends in this story we open a new one.

Congratulations to Rachel and Lexy! We got some great stories, most of which came via email - ironically the two winners were the only ones who posted in our forums!

We hope you enjoy the show! Please let us all know how it was!

Yay, now I'm so excited about the wedding show! We're planning a winter wedding in the Caribbean (on the island where I grew up), so hopefully I find some cool ideas and maybe even a nice casual dress. "Destination Weddings" seem hot these days so hopefully there's lots out there for me.

Very pretty... on Jan 14, 2008 @ 06:46 pm

I had the pleasure of going to the wedding show on Saturday with my cousin (Cinnamon82) and it was a lot of fun! They had many high end vendors and I really enjoyed looking at their work. My cousin and I got some interesting ideas for wedding/shower favours etc. I was also impressed with a photographer group called Ikonica. Gillian was very helpful speaking to us about photography and wedding album options. Overall I am not sure there was a lot there for destination weddings (which is what my cousin is having) but there was definitely a lot there if you are planning on getting married here!

Thanks!!! on Jan 19, 2008 @ 11:41 pm

Thanks for the tickets Misschickie! It was a very informative and fun show. Great setup at The Carlu with 3 rooms packed with free food samples, helpful wedding planners, beautiful displays of table settings and flower arrangements and a wide selection of invitation and photography resources. I LOVED seeing all the yummy too-pretty-to-eat cake displays. I especially enjoyed this show because it catered more to the modern and trendy bride. What would have made it even better was if they had a fashion show and more info on reception/ceremony venues.
