One database entry per PRODUCT, not colour / scent.

Lately I've been noticing that people will make individual postings for each different colour or fragrance in a certain line. For example, the Revlon lipsticks. We only need one database entry for the line of lipstick itself, not an individual entry for each shade.
Example:
The Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms and Colourburst Lacquer Balms would get their own postings. But the Colourburst Lacquer balm in Tease would not. It would go under the Lacquer balm posting that already exists.

It makes it super frustrating when I'm looking for reviews on a certain line (of lipstick or whatever), and I have to scroll through several individual entries of different products within that line when technically they should all go under one entry.
Same goes for perfumed or fragranced items. The Bath & Body Works Body Lotion only needs one entry for it, not one entry for each individual scent they produce. It looks overly messy in search results and it's just annoying to sift through.

I also have a feeling people are creating individual postings in order to get more points for "discovering a new product" when in reality theyre just recycling an old posting and making it new...

Hopefully other people agree with me and we can start cleaning up the database!

I've noticed it too on certain products. And for perfumes I'll see the exact same perfume 2 or 3 times, but the name of it will be in different order, like the designer name will be first followed by the name of the perfume and someone else will make a new post but with the name of the perfume first then the designer name.

It's possible the original listing isn't coming up in the search and the person is missing it?

It does depend on the product.... on Dec 12, 2015 @ 04:36 pm

I feel A line of product, such as food or drink, might require its own posting.

I might not like the grapefruit juice version of something, but would look at the apple juice version of a drink's review instead.

If it's clumped together, yes, I would still read it, but I'm also super organized at work and organizing things in general. I use folders and subfolders.

Others may be like that too, and feel that items of a different taste or other variable requires its own postings.

It's just one of the different ways peoples brains think and work :)

Maybe, but it's highly unlikely. I've never had a problem finding the product I was looking for in the search.

Maybe it's people who are new to the site and maybe don't realize how to do reviews properly

As I am one of those people, for certain things where there are a huge variety like false eyelashes, eye/lip liners and nail polish. EVERY single color doesn't need it's own review but certain posts could be to share a cheaper dupe of a specific color or product. Sometimes a few from the line aren't as good as others or are much thicker/thinner than others in the same line. Also at times the original posting isn't quite what the product you're reviewing is, like newer improved versions.

Reports? on Dec 28, 2015 @ 02:42 am

Or maybe a way to "Report" a posting if we feel it belongs under another already created database entry? I noticed there's no way to draw the staff's attention to something out of place... We need a moderator system!

I agree with one entry per product, just my opinion. I think it's overall the product that counts not per shade/color. I do think scents are different though if you're picking out perfumes.

I dunno, after reviewing more recently I realised the different formulas make a HUGE difference. Like with Julep nail polishes, each color is totally different in texture and how it goes on. There are different types of Modge Podge etc. And flavours of food, some might be good, some bad...

I completely agree with you! I thought I was such a new user who couldn't find my way around the site. I would search for a product as a whole so I can put my review in but end up with a list of some of the colours and I don't know where to write my review. I kinda wish they grouped it together or something.
