I've been to 2 different resorts in Punta Cana and have always had a blast!
The very first one was 7 yrs ago! We stayed at the Sirenis Cocotal. It was my first ever beach vacation and I thought it was amazing! It was a smaller resort with a few problems, but none of which a first time traveler would pick up on! Now that I've been a few more places, I know better (and am more picky perhaps!) They claim to be a 5 star but are far from it! I'd give them a 3! Small resort, leaky rooms, dark sandy beach with a lot of seaweed! Food was bland and almost the same everyday! The grounds are kept beautifully and they have flamingos which I found awesome! Lol! But definitely not a resort I'd go to again!

The second stay was January 2011 for a destination wedding! We stayed at Dreams Palm Beach and o.m.g! It is truly a 5 star resort! Small and super clean! The best service I've ever gotten! The entertainment staff was phenomenal and they had some of the best shows I've seen! The restaurants were spectacular and they even had a coffee shop! They have a massive pool in the middle of the resort, but I spent my whole vacation on the beach! The resort is in Bavaro beach in Punta Cana which is the longest, cleanest, most crystal clear and soft white sand beach I've ever seen! Virtually no seaweed, and if you keep walking past the neighboring resorts, it's secluded and a piece of heaven! There were no vendors on the beach with was a bonus! We ran into a little trouble with our room, but the service was so exceptional that it didn't bother me! They just moved us and we were content! Big spacious rooms! The spa massage was cheap and very relaxing! The wedding was absolutely beautiful! I would come back to this resort in a heart beat! http://www.dreamsresorts.com/drepb/ We paid about $1500 for this resort!
The third on was in November 2011... this time it was to La Romana in Dominican! It's about a 3 hr stay away from Punta Cana. We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana. I decided to check La Romana out because one of the entertainment staff from my last vacation recommended it! And it is a stunning little city! The resort was a good size and I'd rate it a good 4 stars! The food was great at the buffet, although after trying 2 a la carts, we decided we'd stick to the buffet! The beach is clear and long, over 2 miles, but the water is merky and dirty due to a river that runs right into it! No vendors to really bug you and no neighboring resorts, so you did get the secluded feel! This resort though was very big on families! And it wasn't too full due to the time of year! The rooms were big and clean, although the half shower annoyed me! Cute little shops right on the resort and a little disco to dance the night away! Can't complain too much about the resort itself! The staff was great! But for the beach alone, I wouldn't come back to this resort! http://www.granbahiaprincipelaromana.com/ We paid about $750 for this resort!
