o.k so I'm leaving in just under a month and this vacation is a first for me so I'm super excited and kind of nervous. I've never been on a plane.. I've never even been out of Ontario. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. So I'm going for 5 days, and I'm staying at the Sunset Resort in Montego Bay. So just looking for some recommendations for places to go, things to do, restaurants, shopping, etc. Also just wondering, how expensive are things there? and any tips for flying would also be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

I have loads of flying experience- not sure how long that flight is ......but bring a really good sleep mask, ear plugs, extra pair of socks, slippers, gravol in case you feel sick (ideally take 1 1/2 hours before), and gum to chew during take off and landing to avoid ear popping and pain that can come with the altitude changes. Don't be nervous- takeoff and landing are the most fun parts! Also, stretching and walking around a bit helps with blood flow and getting pins and needles. Have fun!

First off great choice! The flight from Ontario to Jamaica isn't that long... Chew some gum, bring a few magazines and relax with a few snacks!
Your resort should have a ton of stuff to do so you shouldn't have to spend that much extra money. I would eat all my meals at the hotel. I also went to Jamaica and had a blast! Be sure to go to Dunn's river falls!( they filmed Cocktail there) and eat as lot of jerk chicken! Have fun be safe

Jamaica is so fun and the people are very friendly! The resort will have restaurants and activities, and if it's an all inclusive, you'll be good on that front. If you take an excursions, make sure you book them through your tour company (Sunwing, Signature, whatever your package was) as these are guaranteed by the company and trusted. You don't want to do any tours off the resort unless it's through one of these guys (they may not be safe)! Dunn's River is awesome! Give that a go, and most importantly, have fun!!

I stayed at that same resort 10 years ago. My travel booking company had an office in the lobby to book excursions to places like shopping in town as a group, Dunns River Falls was great you walk up a waterfall in a group, the Black River had a boat/alligator tour which was fun (the lunch provided along the way in a building with no electricity or soap... had chicken, rice, and beans). All the excursions you go as a group and the econoline van picks you up at the lobby. I wouldn't recommend going to town without the group and tour guide... you stand out as a tourist and get hasseled a bit by people selling things and the places can be a little scary looking. Things can be bartered down really cheap, they try to sell higher to groups and tours. You can get your head braided for $5 in town, but pay more and have it done at the salon in your hotel b/c it's cleaner. The hotel had 3 free restaurants in it (not counting the giant buffet restaurant), go and book any reservations at the 3 menu restaurants on the first day. Oh and the airport had no soap or paper towels when I was there. They have very quick baggage guys that run to your bus and grab your luggage if you don't get to it first, they want to take it for you to your bus or airline check-in for a tip. All in all, the resort and Jamaica is Paradise-Gorgeous and enjoy the weather, scenery, beaches, and free food and free booze.
