Did you catch the Season 2 premiere of Glee last night? In case you missed it, here's a recap of the episode: NOTE: SPOILERS!
It's a new school year and New Directions are bigger losers than ever
after losing Regionals last year. There's been major budget cuts for
both the Cheerios and New Directions and Will and Sue are furious. The
new football coach, Coach Beiste (pronounced like Beast and played by a
large, tough looking woman!) has convinced Principal Higgins that the
football team needs more money than the Cheerios and the Glee Club.
New Directions is looking to recruit new members, but no one will sign
up! Will thinks that no one wants to join because they have a rep of
just singing show tunes and oldies, so he wants to spice things up a
bit and show the school just how cool they are. This year, Nationals
are in New York City so fittingly the Glee Club takes over the field
with their rendition of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' Empire State of Mind.
I'm loving the rapping!
Finn later hears this cute blonde guy Sam singing in the shower and is
tempted to back him up with a cool harmony, but realizes it might be a
little weird as he's naked! Rachel meets a Filipino exchange student
in the washroom that she assumes can't speak English, but she tries to
recruit her to sing as her backup. Turns out this girl (her name is
Sunshine) can not only speak English, but she's a fantastic singer.
Sunshine breaks out into Beyonce and Lady Gaga's Telephone and Rachel
joins in! Just as you're getting into it, Sue barges into the washroom
and yells "Shutup"! Pretty funny actually!
So Mr. Shue and Sue are pulling pranks on Coach Beiste to try and run
her out of the school. Their first method of attack is to deliver 25
pizzas to football tryouts, then they refuse to let her sit with them
in the lunchroom, and Coach Beiste calls Mr. Shue out on stooping to
Sue's level (she heard that Sue was the school bully).
Over the summer, Tina dumped Artie and now he wants to join the
football team to show her how cool he really is. He convinces Finn to
help him out, imagining himself being pushed down the field in his
wheelchair like a human cannonball! When Finn talks to Coach Beiste
about this, she flips out and kicks him off the team! She just finished
having a good cry about how mean Mr. Shue and Sue are being and she
feels like that Finn is mocking her by asking.
Later Finn gets Sam to sing Travie McCoy's Billionaire and he's
amazing! Sam agrees to come to tryouts. At tryouts, neither Sam or
Sunshine show up. Turns out, Rachel gave Sunshine directions to a
crack house rather than the auditorium! Sam doesn't show up - turns
out he took the position of quarterback now that Finn's kicked off the
Over at Cheerios tryouts, both Quinn and Finn try out! Finn dances to
"I've got the power" and well, he's awful! When Sue finds out that
Santana (last year's head cheer leader) got implants over the summer,
she demotes her to bottom of the pyramid, and Quinn takes the role of
Sue gets Brittany to accuse Coach Beiste of inappropriate touching, but
Will comes in and talks Brittany out of it - she's so dense! Now that
Will turned on Sue, they are enemies once again!
When the Glee Club finds out that Rachel led Sunshine to a crack house,
Rachel apologizes and Sunshine trys out with an amazing rendition of
"Listen" from the DreamGirls soundtrack. But to get back at Will for
turning on her, Sue calls up the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline and they

That part was great! I also loved when Will turned on Sue and she got mad and knocked a couple kids down the stairs - she's too funny!
