So, you may have heard that the CW is recreating Sex and the City, but with Carrie in high school. The series is set in the 80s as well.
I'm not too sure if I like this to be honest. I loved Sex and the City back in the day, the first two seasons were my favourite and redoing it as a teen show seems kind of lame to me. Also, I take issue with the fact that this girl looks nothing like SJP and this outfit doesn't belong in the 80's. They do have the costume designer from Gossip Girl on board though so in any case, the fashion will be some great eye candy.
Here is a link to the trailer.
Let me know what you think! Will you be watching this?
I like me some 1980s on May 18, 2012 @ 05:34 pm
...but I think this will ultimately be a disappointment.
A disappointment to SATC fans who will see too many inconsistencies between the classic series and this reboot (just think of Smallville and how far that deviated from the Superman movies, for one) OR a disappointment because retro shows are hard to do well. Remember "That '80s Show"? No? Exactly.
I'll give it a try on May 18, 2012 @ 05:38 pm
Heck if I gave 2.5 men a try after the main actor "died" I will give this a shot, I think it would have done better just to have started another series same idea just not have linked it to SATC I think because of this I will be disappointed those are some big shoes to fill!

To be honest I do not think anyone can be "Carrie Bradshaw" other then SJP. She is SO symbolic that this girl would have to be an AMAZING actress to pull it off :/

Not sure. I might give it a try if nothing else is on at the time slot. But just seems iffy about re-creating the Carrie Bradshaw character. Even if it's a prequel.

I'm not sure SATC will work without the original characters. It was how well the actresses 'clicked' together that made the show so amazing. :/
Also there are already a million TV Shows out there about teenagers. SATC was different. I fear that this will take away from that.

I think that SATC fans will have some very high expectations of this show and it will be disappointing. I feel like this will end of being a tween/teen show (think 90210 remake).
might even be too racy on May 22, 2012 @ 10:33 am
I see a lot of things through a different lens since becoming a parent. SATC was a show for grown women and the racy plotlines were appropriate for that age group. I know a lot of teen shows have sexual situations, but this by its very title leads me to assume there will be a lot of steamy scenes.
While I'm sure the producers are hoping to capture some of the original SATC audience, let's be real here - this is going to be a teen show that skews a lot younger. CW's demographic is younger anyway. Can't we let kids be kids a little longer? And yes, the under-18 crowd are kids, even if most of them are sexually active. Let's not make unwise choices even more enticing than they already are.
For context, I should note that I don't watch Gossip Girl, Glee, 90210, etc either. Not because I'm a stick-in-the-mud but because they just aren't shows that interest me. While I can't prevent my daughter from watching these shows on the sneak, I certainly would not encourage her watching them without first having serious discussions about the messages (both overt and subliminal) these shows present. I use the same yardstick when considering which movies she should watch. Some of these shows I would outright forbid. Let's let kids be kids!

Why ruin a good thing! I hate when they re-make great tv shows and movies (think the recent Footloose remake... and now they want to re-make Dirty Dancing!) I think it just takes away from the original. Besides, people who are huge fans of the original shows and movies will never really give the re-make a shot! I'm too devoted to the originals!
I'm on Board! on Aug 14, 2012 @ 04:13 pm
They Carrie Diaries is of course based off of the character most of us have come to love, Carrie, from Sex And The City. But the author of the books also created the book series called, The Carrie Diaries based off of Carrie's teenage years and that is what this new television series is going to be based on. I admit I'm not too big a fan of remakes, but it's not the same as when they redid Footloose. Footloose was an actual remake, The Carrie Diaries is not. There will be new characters just like there is in the actual books, The Carrie Diaries, so I'm willing to give it a shot and am definitely on board. I was and still am a huge fan of Miss Carrie Bradshaw and would love to see her character as a teen and before there was Mr. Big! :)

I don't really know how I feel about this... I mean Sex and the City was on HBO so how good can this really get being on the CW (nothing against CW. But HBO would be rated R and CW would be rated G if you were comparing the two) I do have to say though I wonder what Carrie would have been like in High School...lol
