There are three books so far in the Abarat series which is written and illustrated by Clive Barker.
It's a fantasy story aimed at young adults unlike a lot of Barker's work.
The story takes place on the Abarat which is a archipelago consisting of 25 islands. One island for each hour of the day and one extra.
Each of these islands is very different and full of all kinds of imaginative creatures. And not all good ones!
It follows the story of a teenage girl named Candy who runs away only to find herself in this fantastical world.
I recommend this to anyone as it is an amazing story and a visual experience with Barker's illustrations.
It is a bit dark, however, so maybe not for young children.
