Baby Proof by Emily Griffin Reviews
#1020 in Books

Description

Publisher's description:
From the author of the smash hits Something Borrowed and Something Blue comes a novel that explores the question: is there ever a deal-breaker when it comes to true love?
First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes . . . a baby carriage? Isn''t that what all women want?

Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart. One of them wants children after all.

This is the witty, heartfelt story about what happens to the perfect couple when they suddenly want different things. It's about feeling that your life is set and then realizing that nothing is as you thought it was--and that there is no possible compromise. It's about deciding what is most important in life, and taking chances to get it. But most of all, it''s about the things we will do--and won''t do--for love.

This is another novel by Emily Giffin, the author of Something Borrowed and Something Blue. It follows the story of Claudia – a career woman who is adamant about the fact that she does not want children. She meets Ben who is perfect for her in many ways – he even shares her desire to not have children. The two have a blissful marriage until Ben decides he wants to have kids after all. The plot of this book sounds predictable, and in some ways it is, but it is still an engaging read with relatable characters. Claudia is burdened by tensions that I am betting every woman can relate to.

I did not love this book as much as Something Borrowed and Something Blue, but if you were a fan of Emily Giffin’s writing in those books, I think you should give this one a chance. In all of her books, she surprises me with the ability to make seemingly predictable situations into completely unexpected plot twists, while also creating characters so relatable that you feel like you are actually their friends. This book is no exception.

Everyone kept telling me that this book isn't as good as her first two books, so when I read it, I did not have high expectations. However, I thought Griffin had done a great job writing this book. The story was not as emotionally gripping as the other two but I thought the character developement was wonderful. Both Claudia and Ben learned a valuable lesson that I think everyone can take that lesson home and apply it to their own lives.
