Adult fans of the Hunger Games should be aware of this predecessor to the series, which follows Japanese freshmen chosen to compete in a 'Battle Royale' against one another on a secluded island. Beware younger readers, this is a much more graphic and violent book than The Hunger Games. However, it truly delves into the psyche of adolescents, and human nature as a whole, when put into a life or death situation.

A well written book. Read the book and saw the movie and own it as well. Just teens placed on an island to test each other out and kill each other off. It's pretty gory and may be offensive. This book is way before hunger games came out and so much better. All though I didn't like the hunger games but if you did, you may enjoy this, depends on your taste.

What do you think, have read it?

This is a Manga series which may sound very familiar to you these days as it has a lot of similarities to the Hunger Games. (Battle Royale came first)
Firstly, if you've never read Manga before, be prepared to be confused at first.
The book is read from back to front and from right page to left page.
A bit confusing when you first start, but trust me it gets easier! :)

Battle Royale is a manga series written by Koushun Takami.
It takes place in an alternate future in a military society that is ruled by dictatorship.
It tells the story of a 9th grade class who are forced to compete in a game of life or death called "The Program".
They are brought to a deserted island and only one of them will be allowed to leave. That is if there are no other survivors. All kids must kill each other until there is only one student left. If they don't, then they will all die by the bomb that's in the collar around each of their necks.

WARNING: This manga is very sexually graphic and violent. If you're not good with intensity and gore, then this manga is not for you.
