This can opener has a nice smooth handle – possibly made of Stainless Steel, but it could be Aluminium. There are no instructions that indicate what material it is made of.
Unlike our old can opener (which opens lids from the top), this opener does not open wide, and opens cans from the side of the lid. This is likely to avoid getting stuck in ruts or divots that normally cause manual can openers to go off track and to prevent cuts from the lid edges.
Despite the way it opens the cans, I do wish it opened wider in order to make disc placement easier.
The disc is sharp and effective enough once it is placed properly on the can (which is easier after a few attempts) and opens in one smooth movement without going off track.
The sturdy plastic handle does not quite go with the light metal of the opener, but it is denser than most plastics and should last for a while. It is quite comfortable to turn – I was able to effortlessly take 6 lids off during meal prep day, not leaving my hand sore like our old can opener.
The ends of the handles have metal loops so you can store by either hanging it or place the opener in a drawer.
To clean, you can either place it in the dishwasher or just use soap and water. It has not shown disolouration or spotting afterwards like some metal kitchen appliances do, so it actually looks clean!
Overall, it is okay, but a bit testy to use at first, and I would change how far the handles open up and the plastic turning lever into the same metal for longevity.
