I purchased both the Essie Matte About You matte finisher and the Eyes Lips Face (ELF) Matte Finisher so I could compare them. Essie's cost me $10.95 tax at Trade Secret (I had to go to 4 different ones to find it!) for 0.5 fl oz. and ELF's was $2 on eyeslipsface.com shipping & tax for 0.35 fl oz.
The ELF matte finisher is great- especially for $2.00. It mattifies almost instantly and lasted about 5 days with one small touch up. It is a little streaky, but not very noticeably. It's mattifying power is not as great as Essie's, since there is still a slight reflection on the nails. This product has a very strong and unpleasant smell to it, that lasts about 12 hours after application, and then goes away. Below there is a picture of it over ELF's Smokey Brown
Essie's matte about you is also great, but you're paying $10.95. It also mattifies right away, and the mattifying power is better than ELF's, there is zero reflection on the nails. How long it lasted varied for me, depending on the polish underneath, but at least a week if not more, with one touch up. Essie's does not have the same strong odour. It is not streaky and dries leaving the nail smooth. Below there is a picture of it over OPI Give Me Moor
Both dry very quickly and leave the nail smooth, both have long lasting power and give similar matte finishes. The Essie polish is slightly better in terms of no odour and no streakiness, plus it's advantage of being more readily available versus the ELF one having to be ordered online. If you can get your hands on the ELF matte finisher it is definitely worth trying first, especially if you do not want to spend $10
