The purpose of this treatment is to eliminate frizz and easily straighten your hair by simply blow-drying after you've gotten out of the shower and it is supposed to last 4-6 weeks. It is the "express" version of the full Keratin Complex treatment which is supposed to last 4-6 months.
I have thick, wavy hair and the treatment did exactly what is was supposed to do. The first time I washed my hair I let it air-dry because I usually have a lot of frizz, and I was surprised to see that no frizz developed. By simply blow-drying my hair, it would become straight and cut my hair styling time right in half.
Longevity: It has now been 8 weeks since I've had the treatment done, and my hair is still frizz-free. I wash my hair on average every two days and my hair is still behaving the way it did right after I had the treatment done.
What is the treatment?: I had my hair washed and cut before they began the treatment. It's a similar process to when you get your hair dyed, except they don't wash it out. She used the same type of brush to put the keratin complex into my hair section by section, and instead of washing it out, she just blow-dried it. I was immediately concerned because I have really oily hair and thought my hair would look disgusting for the rest of the day with this treatment just being blow-dried into my hair, but it looked completely normal. You are supposed to wait a minimum of 24 hours before you wash your hair after getting the treatment, I waited about 48 hours before washing my hair.
Hair Care: It is important that after getting the treatment you also get the shampoo and/or conditioner that is meant to be used along with the treatment. Regular shampoos that lather-up in your hair strip your hair of its natural oils, and will therefore strip the treatment from your hair. So by getting the specially designed keratin complex shampoo, you will be insuring that the treatment lasts as long as possible in your hair. I opted only to get the shampoo because I have oily hair and don't use conditioner in the first place. It was $27, which isn't bad for a salon brand shampoo.
Concerns: Because I have very oily hair, the main problem I has was that the shampoo wasn't stripping my hair of its oil. So my hair was oilier than I'm used to it being. Also, I found that my hair was falling out more than usual when I would brush it out, but I'm not sure enough to say that it was because of the treatment. It wasn't an extreme amount or anything, it was just more than usual.
Donato's: The stylist I had at Donato's had the treatment done on herself so she was very helpful with tips on how to style your hair. She said she found that the treatment made her hair less voluminous, so she cut my hair in a way that would allow for ample volume to make up for it. She also explained the Keratin Complex shampoo and conditioner to me and why it is a good idea to get it, but she wasn't pushy in making sure that I did so. All in all, it was a good experience.
I would definitely recommend the treatment for anyone with dry hair. If you have oily hair, you may experience some of the problems that I did with the shampoo where my hair was just oiler than I'm used to.
I received this treatment from Donato's for testing.
