About a week ago, I went into Sephora looking for some new makeup brushes and ended up asking an employee what she could recommend for my foundation problem. Often, I find foundations (even the oil free brands) end up looking greasy halfway through the day, and make my already large pores look even bigger when it just sinks right in there. She recommended I try a primer and, after asking several questions about my skin type, gave me a sample of Philosophy The Present Clear Makeup.

I took it home, pretty excited about trying it, and I have yet to be disappointed. When putting it on in the morning, I do have to let it set, but it leaves my skin feeling both moisturized and beautifully soft and smooth. Even with that sense of moisture, it feels amazing going on, not the slightest bit greasy or oily. I had to adjust how I put on foundation (there's no more slow blending, as the primer 'sets' the foundation fairly quickly) but once I learned to dab lightly, one area at a time, I found my foundation going on quite nicely.

The best part? My face doesn't look like an oil slick halfway through the day. Yeah, I still get a bit of shine, but this primer has more than cut that in half. I can touch my face without cringing and, when I look in the mirror at the end of each day, I don't notice my foundation sinking into my pores or into the beginning of the lines I like to pretend aren't there.

At first, I was a little worried about introducing something new into my skin care routine and I had some concern that it might cause me to break out, but a week later, and I'm satisfied. No new break outs and my sensitive skin hasn't had any sort of reaction to this new addition.

I didn't pay for what I have now, but I certainly have no problem paying the asking price of $32 Canadian. The bottle is a pretty decent size and the product will probably last for ages. Even the tiny sample I was given will be more than enough to get me through the next month. Only a dab is needed to cover your whole face.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with Philosophy The Present Clear Makeup and, if you're looking for a good primer, this one is fantastic.

I've been using this primer forever and i find that it works really well. The name is deceiving because by no means is it a 'clear makeup'. It's really a make up primer. The creates a barrier between the skin and the make up, so it sort of protects your skin from any harmful ingredients or ingredients that may irritate or break out your skin. The primer is a bit tricky to use. The consistency is a bit thick but it absorbs to your skin. The key to this make up primer is to first let your moisturizing/sunscreen set for 2-3 minutes first, then you apply the primer and allow that to set/absorb for another 2-3. If you don't the make up you apply on top make clump or smear. I find that if you use it correctly, it really makes the make up application smoother and protects your skin to a certain degrees. I definitely have less pimples when i use this. It does have silicone derivative which holds moisture and makes your skin smooth, but i know that there are people out there who are sensitive to silicone, so beware if you are. Overall, this is my staple make up primer and i find it works well with my skin and make up routine.
