You wouldn't think that Steve Martin would be an exceptional writer, but he is! Once I read one of his books, I had to go out and try to find them all. They are all wonderful! Start with this one. He has a writing style all his own, like your best friend is sharing a story with you.

I loved ShopGirl! Steve Martin is such a great authour and has a way of really humanizing his characters so you can experience what they are feeling. It's a pretty short book so makes for a very fast read.

I also loved the movie adaptation and highly recommend both. I usually get disgusted at movies after I read the book, but this was one where I felt they had done it right!

This novella was such a great read. Steve Martin really knows how to write a character that you can relate with. He makes me laugh and cry at the right moments, and there is never lack of emotion in any of his writings. He also did a great job in turning this into a movie. I was glad to see that nothing had really changed. As always, I think the book is superior to the movie, despite how similar they are. The written word just seems to go further.
