Don't know what the book cost, I found it in a thrift store. However if I found it in a book store I would have still gotten it. It's worth paying full price for. Well written, easy to follow story. It says a lot about the characters. Its a book with a message. I haven't seen the movie so I can't compare the two but I would recommend the book to anyone.

I loved this book, I read it in three days in between work. I love it so much that I have recommended this book to everyone I know. It was a light read on a pretty heavy topic.I haven't seen the movie yet, and I want to. But I'm worried that it's going to ruin the book for me.

I loved reading this book! The characters, as well as dialect used, really take you back to the time period of the 1960's in Mississippi. It had both a humorous side to it, but also brought to light the seriousness of racial division, which was still very prevalent in the south during those days. I never felt bored while reading and always wanted to know what would happen next. Although reading the southern dialect took some getting used to in the beginning, it ended up being an easy read. I also enjoyed the movie and thought it represented the book quite well.

This is a great book! Very well written and the subject is unique and interesting. I love all the characters in the book and it's interesting to read about a topic I think has not been written about a lot, to bring to light a sort of hush hush topic. The movie they made from the book was also very good.

One of my favorite books, I've read it thee times! I definitely enjoyed the maids, Miss Celia and Skeeter as they were more genuine than they other rude and judgmental women in the book. Unfortunately I didn't find the movie to be very good but then again, the book is always better!

I can't say enough good things about this book... the pacing, the Southern charm, the disarming honesty, the backdrop of the violent social change, the unseen fears, the social pressures on both races, the warm and cold in the relationships. I was hooked start to finish. I loved the characters and I think they will be with me for a long time. There is a slow, seeping sadness in the book... but also hope and respect. LOVED IT

This book is a must read, combines history, humor and sometimes just plain craziness. It allows you to see what black maids had to put up with and tickles your funny bones with some of the stories about the white female employers.

This book is hard to put down, holds your attention through out and gives you so much to think about. It is humorous and sad and tender all at the same time. AN excellent read for any one.

I'm white, but this book made me hate white people.
