There was no real reason why I needed to buy this. It wasn't close to any sort of holiday or celebration. I had just wanted to see what it would taste like and if it resembled actual wheat chocolate cake. Close. By itself, it had a mild gluten free taste that I was not able to pinpoint. It rose like wheat. It was easy to mix. It offered a lot of mix (enough for two layers).
Because I didn't need cake, I had ended up making smaller snack cakes (think Vachons) and coated them with a dark chocolate / coconut oil / vanilla extract mixture before setting them to harden in the freezer. They were delicious that way.
This is very pricey at almost 5 times the cost of a regular cake mix, but offered a lot of cake mix in the box for two. If you need to make a gluten free cake, this is a decent option.
