Cafes Reviews

A café requires just one thing to win our hearts: truly decadent coffee.  We've come across our fair share of snooty décor, name-dropping baristas, and lack of seating space, but all is forgiven when we're handed our immaculately brewed Americano or Soy Chai Latte - whichever's your preference.  The search for the next must-stop java joint is an urbanista's favourite pastime... and when we can find one that also serves a great lunch, well you had us at Bonjour!

In Toronto, we're partial to The Sandwich Box, Le Gourmand, and Sense Appeal Coffee Roasters.  Which is your favourite?

Starbucks rewards program
Starbucks came up with a rewards program that allows you to get free beverages every 12 purchase and on your birthday. The catch is that you must use your Starbucks gift card and register the card online to track your purchases. It's a good program if you drink a lot of...

Lucky's Donuts Vancouver
I've been on a donut craze lately and was sooooo happy when Lucky's Donuts opened up in Vancouver a few months ago. I drive by every morning on my way to work and always see a line up! It's located inside 49th Parallel on Main Street, so a great place to grab a cup of coffee...

Dunkin Donuts
I love DD!!! I usually get a donut, but sometimes I get a coffee. If they ever stopped making donuts.... I would not be able to cope. The sandwiches are also amazing, and sometimes they offer coupons or contests for winning them. I'm not a fan of fruity coolatas, but if...

Kaffee Haus
This cafe has very good good coffee. Mostly the Kick Horse brand which (IMO) is an excellent roast. The menu is nicely done and offers alternatives for varied tastes. Salads, chicken wraps, etc; for the health conscious. It is a short walk from Gimli harbour and during the...

Camp Restaurant
Opened February 2012, Camp Restaurant is located on Jane a few blocks north of Bloor in Bloor West Village. Proprietor Megan Whiten convinced her family to let her turn the main floor of their house into a restaurant. Now she says, they love it! Camp is a cozy space and a...

Jerry's Cajun Cafe & Market
My husband took my to Jerry's for the first time 13 years ago. It has since changed locations, but the food is still the best Cajun you can get without driving to New Orleans. I highly recommend cajun new potatoes and cajun bread, ah with some grilled fish.....My mouth is...

Mariposa Market
I cannot say enough how awesome Mariposa Market is :) It's definitely a favourite in our area, and it's always packed with customers. It's a cafe as well as a bakery and gift shop. The seating for the cafe is excellent - very cozy with wooden tables and chairs, and...

Moonbean Cafe
I am an independent coffee shop lover, and my absolute favourite cafe in the city [Toronto] is 'Moonbean Cafe'. Located at 30 St. Andrew Street, in the heart of Kensington Market (the city's hub for all that is hipster cool), the quaint cafe offers top-grade...

Fine Grind Cafe
I came across this little cafe in downtown St. Catharines in late 2009. My boyfriend had taken me there because he said the owner makes the best hot chocolates - gourmet, with REAL CHOCOLATE, ladies! I love-love-LOVE the hot chocolate. I am lactose intolerant so it's hard to...

Wibke's Espresso Bar
Bloor West Village needed a cafe like this. Though there are Timothy's, Starbucks and other chains in the area, there are very few independent cafes that know how to pour a good espresso. This tiny cafe is located on Bloor at Jain and owned by a bubbly German named Wibke...

Crema Coffee Co - 3079 Dundas St. W
Some of the very best coffee in town! The cappuccinos here are like velvet. They also serve an assortment of delicious pastries including a delicious pumpkin muffin. It's exactly the sort of cafe the Junction needs. My only beef is November is too cold to have the door...

HoJoes Coffee and Books
HoJoes is awesome. Great coffee, teas and deserts. The staff is very really friendly. You can sit there and listen to local music talent on their music nights and hop into your own world via the WiFi connection. The deserts are really good and every time I have been there fresh...

Dark Horse Espresso - 215 Spadina Avenue
I had walked by this swanky hipster joint several times before one day entering its doors when I had time to kill. Although an emergency phone call prompted me to cut my visit short after barely taking a seat, the few sips I took of the decaf mocha had me ecstatic to return. As...

Tim Hortons
I am not a big coffee drinker, but my husband is. He is from Canada and he told me that Tim Hortons (affectionately called Timmies by everyone) has the best coffee, better than the fancy coffee shops. I tried it for the first time when I was in Toronto and I loved it. It's...

Coffee Culture
I've only ever been to Coffee culture twice, but I loved it both times. The first time, I had a smoothie and a grilled pesto, tomato and cheese wrap. The smoothie had the right consistency and the wrap was grilled to perfection. Both times I went for a quiet lunch with...
