Books Reviews

Curling up with a good book is a favourite year-round pursuit: in front of a blazing fire in January, in the park under a warm May sun, in a hammock lake-side in July or with coffee on the back porch overlooking brilliant fall foliage.

ChickAdvisor members love light reads like the wildly popular Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella or the more introspective romances of Emily GiffinHe's Not That Into You gives us food for thought, and Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series is a guilty little pleasure.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin.
This series is one I have enjoyed hugely. There is so many characters and each has a rich story line I got lost for hours. There are many twists and turns and major cliffhangers, hats off to George RR Martin each book was more exciting than the last and keeps me wanting more!

The Lost City of Z by David Grann
I really loved this book because it's non-fiction that reads as effortlessly as a fictional novel. It's also very informative, and I gained a lot of new insight about Amazonian exploration which I never knew before. It was very eye-opening, at at times disgusting (the bugs!)...

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I loved it. I found it a little hard to get into the story, but once the story line got going, it was great! You do have to be paying attention, as it can get a little complicated with who is who as I found there were a number...

Face Forward by Kevyn Aucoin
I'm kindof a nerd so if I have an interest in a subject I like to read and research on it, even makeup! As just your average makeup user some people might find it a bit extreme to source out books that most pro MUAs enjoy. To my surprise I found the two Aucoin books I read...

Fast Food Nation
This is great, and gross - all in the same! I honestly learned so much about the fast food industry, and now I have sworn it all off. I will never allow myself another burger, or my children. You seriously need to read this, and get snapped into reality! Shocking.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
This book is truly my one guilty pleasure. Its such a classic and heart-warming tale, it's hard to imagine what life was like in earlier times, but this novel gives a clear idea and is well written. Jane Austen is a world renowned 18th-19th century author for a reason. She also...
