    Lost and confused

My daughter and I have been a client for over 4 yrs. We started with a great color professional, later we were introduced to Lynn. To me the best hair color professional at Donato. She was polite, very intelligent and knowledgeable. To my surprise, we call in after being at the square one salon not even 4 months ago, to book another appointment and Lynn is gone. They don't have my daughter in the system, after being a client for so long, and they don't have the formula Lynn used on her hair. Noone is there that can help us out, to at least put us at ease. If we pay for good results we at least expect good service in return. The salon to me now has gone from a 4 star to a 0 if there was a no star rating. Does anyone know where Lynn went? I know the company won't give that information, but at least have the courtesy to put you at ease and tell you they know the formula
I'm so lost, though not confused, just very disappointed.

I went to Donato since it's close by my house and I wanted to find a hair stylist that I could go to consistently. I made the appointment over the phone, and asked for an ombre. When I arrived I got sat in the colour section, and my hair stylist Lynn (not sure how it's spelled) came over and confirmed that I wanted ombre. I showed her a picture of how I wanted it, and she said okay and went off to mix the colour. Now that I've spoken to them over the phone, apparently the one second it took to say "ombre" and "okay" qualified as a 'consultation' where she described 'the process and design of what she was going to do'. Which is surprising, seeing as that was not even close to what really happened. I know very little about the colouring process, and trusted Lynn to colour it how I wanted. What I have ended up with is patchy highlights that stop about 1-3 inches from my roots, so it looks like a grown-out highlight, and the highlights that are there are all clumped together and not blended at all. The under part of my hair is also just completely blonde while the top looks brown- I'm not sure what she did, but this was definitely not what I asked for. When she had blown it dry and asked me what I thought, I told her that it wasn't what I was expecting, although at the time all I could see was the front of my hair and didn't see the extent to which it had been brutalized. I guess she had seen the back and wanted to keep it incognito for as long as possible.
I did call them and asked to speak to the manager after a coworker pointed out that I had splotchy streaks on the back of my head. (When I put my hair up in a ponytail because I was embarrassed was when my coworker sadly informed me that my bottom layer was even worse). I was told that the manager would call me back. After about 4 hours of silence, I called them back to see if the manager had time for me yet. This was when I was informed that I wasn't going to speak to the manager, I got what I asked for, it's all my fault and I wouldn't be seeing any money back or even store credit. The receptionist I spoke to kept telling me that "Lynn told me there was a consultation. Lynn told me you liked it. Lynn told me you approved"- even though I never even got to speak to Lynn, and even though none of that was true.
Anyways, I am left completely humiliated, down $160 ($180 after taxes), and have an appointment with my old hair stylist an hour away from my new location to get my hair fixed. This is going to cost me even more- when I showed her the pictures she was pretty unhappy and told me she would have to recolour my hair to help get rid of the weird bad highlights, and then give me the ombre that I wanted. So yay, all in all I will have spent over $300 trying to get my hair done because Lynn screwed me over and then ripped me off of my money.
And of course everyone has their own opinion and some people will have had positive experiences- this is just one of many and I strongly suggest if you want to go to Donato, don't go to Lynn if you're going to get an ombre.

I am writing here because my review a few days ago had surprisingly been deleted off yelp. I mean I wasn't that harsh but honestly this place is upright horrible. I probably shouldve even left a tip. I had long hair like almost passing my butt and I asked for a couple of inches off and to make it more volumized. I booked with a senior stylist 2. She was a bit rude. She was like you can either have either or. 2 inches off or more volume. In my head I was like... ok where the fuck did this attitude come from? Did you like not eat your lunch and get hangry for no reason in front of a new potential client. So she starts cutting and stuff and I felt like she wasn't engaging in any conversation or letting me know what she was doing to my hair step by step. After the cut she just literally blow dried my hair straight. Like thanks for the volume and short ass cut. My hair now sits above my chest and I am not the most slimming in size but I did want to keep sone length to cover my body a bit but she drastically thought that cutting half of my hair length would make a difference in volume. I absolutely hate me hair. I paid $75 for a junior 1 cut. I could've gone to fiorio and got a level 3 stylist that knew what they were doing to my fine asian hair. An unnamed senior stylist 3 at Donato did not ask me how I wanted to style my hair after my cut but just went straight to straight blow drying my hair... like at least ask me if I wanted it curly or straight. Save your money and walk over to Fiorio. They know their stuff and know how to treat their customers!

Today I had the most terrible experience I could have ever imagined at Donato Square One. To begin I am 19 year old girl with long dark brown hair and I just wanted some simple highlights for summer. I booked an appointment with Nicola. This was my first mistake. After being repeatedly told highlights are $160, I decided it would be a good option. Nicole is a senior colourist and the highest level of colourist at Donato. After explaining that I want medium brown put in my hair she agreed and said it wouldn't be a problem to do. She began highlighting and after 40 minutes and a minimal foils sat me under the dryer. Then had an assistant wash and tone my hair. I was then sent over for a stylist to blow dry my hair (which is an additional cost). I started to see my hair dry and did not like the result. The highlights were NOT caramel but a gross orange. I said I didn't like the highlights and was pretty much told that I was out of luck. When my hair was all dry I went to the front to pay and got the shock of my life. MY BILL WAS 375 DOLLARS!!!!!! When I asked why I was given a lot of trouble. All I wanted to know was the break down of cost. I was repeatedly told that there was nothing I could do and I had to pay. I was bullied and pressured into paying. I barely had half a head of highlights. As soon as I left I called my mom hysterically CRYING. She then called the salon to talk to a manager and once again they told her that the manager was unreachable but that she could leave a message. The manager never got back to her but the receptionist said that the toner was an additional cost and the highlights were more then full head. DEFINITELY NOT. These people have terrible customer service, lie and misinform clients about the price of services. They pressure you into paying after the service even if the service does not meet your standards. If you want to be treated like garbage and have a "half-ass" service then go to Donato! Enjoy their condescending attitude and fraudulent prices!! Maybe you'll get ripped off too!!! I called my credit card company and they said that the way I was deceived qualifies as fraud so I can't wait to file a formal police report. AND I am not the first person this has happened to.... After this experience I found others that had the same thing happen to them.

I was very unhappy with my last appt at Donato's at Square One. I had my hair cut and highlighted which cost me $174.00. The highlights were fine but the cut wasn't perfected. After a few days, I decided that the bottom part only on the sides were still a little heavy and needed to be tapered a little more. The top, bangs and back were fine. When I went back to ask if they could fix it, the stylist decided I needed to rebook and pay again to get it fixed. Unbelievable! To pay for only 10 minutes to fix it? This is not customer service and not what I would have expected from a salon after being charged that amount! Donato is not one I would recommend.

LOUSE-Y experience! Spent big bucks for a cut with the 'artistic' stylist. I had high expectations especially since I paid $90 for this last-minute 'design' cut (unfortunately, had to resched my regular stylist out and was crazy desperate). Not only did I receive a mediocre 'first-choice-like' cut, I'm 99.9% certain she gave me HEAD LICE. I should have known better since she didn't pull a comb out of a barbicide cylinder to detangle/comb my hair...instead she used her 1990's brown brush to detangle and blow dry/'style' which she got from her nasty drawer. (Who does that?). I feel partially responsible for not mitigating the situation and saying STOP you dirty SOB, wash your utensils, and practice some common sense hygiene, especially in an over crowded salon.....

DONATO, you've gone too far. No hair-cutting place should be considered a spa/salon if health and safety standards are blatantly questionable! And don't even get me started with their massage spa. Out of the 3 experiences I've had there, 2 were good and my third and last experience involved me waiting 25-minutes for the masseuse. No respectable spa makes the next client suffer from the previous client's tardiness. Yes, their excuse was that the client prior was late! Too bad, so sad for them. Again, no common sense here...

Do yourself and favour and stay away from this salon. When I first arrived there I thought that maybe I was invisible. There was a man and woman standing behind the counter talking, totally ignoring me. I had to yoo! hoo! them to get them to notice I was there. The guy takes me to the back, long walk! GIves me a robe, tells me to put my things in a locker, including the sweater I was wearing. He didnt offer me a private room to dress in!! All he said was, dont worry, I wont look. I had to remove my sweater in front of everyone in the back at the sinks!! Thank god I had a little camisole under my sweater but still very uncomfortable. Than he takes meto a chair and says my colourist will be right with me. The guy came, didnt even spend 2 seconds asking what I wanted. I said I wanted blond highlites, he just said"Ok I will be right back with the colour". Absolutely No Consultation whatsoever!! Threw the foils in in about 10 minutes than went to the girl beside me and started working on her. 15 minutes later a different person told me sit in a different chair, sat there for 5 minutes. Buzzer went off than that girl told me to come to the sink. Never did see the colourist again. SHe had me put my head back to wash my hair. Left me there for about 5 minutes and went god knows where. Came back and rushed through the wash. She than sent me across the salon again to another station where another girl came and cut my hair. At this point I was smart enough to say "just a trim please" After insulting the condition of my hair (I think just to sell some product to me) she spent all of about 10 minutes on me. She than shook my hand, said nice to meet you...bye! That was it! I had to find my way back to the locker to get my stuff and find a place to change back into my sweater that was more private than the sink room. The colourist never came to ask me how I like my highlites, the girl who cut my hair never said anything either. I just couldnt wait to get the hell out of there. When I went to pay for this experience, it was very confusing. There were 2 counters, lots of staff and no one seemed to care to direct you to where to pay. I had to ask where to pay and all the guy did was point to the other counter where there were 3 young girls there just talking to each other. I said "Can I please pay here?" She said "Yea, whats your phone #?" They dont use your name, they use your phone number!! I felt like I was on an assembly line and they wanted me out as fast as possible!!! There are too many people working there to make it feel like you get the attention you deserve, especially for the amount you pay! I was done in an hour and a half!! $250.00!! And hair that doesnt look any better than if I went to a place for $100.

Okay sooo not too long ago I went to get my hair down at Donato Salon & Spa, at square one. I have heard some good things and bad things about this place, but hey I thought I would give it a try. I had what they called an artist director for $95 and a senior hair colour tech for a colour and highlights now the prices are possibly a little high for the area that it is located but I am use to pay $200- $300 for my hair. Anyway when I arrived the girl at the front was well okay, she kind of took a while to find me in her system because some put me under a different name. I was early therefore I was aware that I had to wait for my appointment to start. In the mean time I was looking at a few different hair product, I asked this lady for her thinking she was some sort of manager, and well she was extremely RUDE and did not know anything about her product knowledge, she did not even have the nerve to direct me to someone that could actually help me as she rushed to her own appointment. I asked a stylist near by who that was and he did not even KNOW her??? then a young lady informed me that her name is Lisa, well I am not sure what he position is at Donato's but she has horrible customer service. Anyway I got my colour done and well nothing special it was orange?? my hair is originally light brown and I always get either a blond or caramel color done....but not this time....the colour was also sooo cold on my head it was as if they placed it in a fridge?? not a comfy feeling indeed. Then came the hair cut, I have long hair down to my mid back and it is fairly heathly as I use salon based hair products to protect my hair, and also my colourist uses VEGAN colour formulas in my hair, something that "high end" salon doesnt even have. --- Back to the hair cut....well I asked for 3"s off and mayde got 1 and a half " haha it looked like I just had a bad colour service down with an OKAY blowdry. Well its the first and the last time thats for sure..... ya its a huge salon but it looks more like a factory to me....no one seems happy. As I said I dont mind spending the money at all.....but not getting the service you are paying for is a complete RIP OFF....

From one fashionista to another look the other way and venture out to better places with an upper east side appeal....

I should have read the previous comment. I went to the one in Mississauga and Senior Stylist Leo took care of it. Acutually, I would like to have my hair curl but not too curly. All he said was loose will last for two months and curly will last for three months. He did not even explain what he is going to make it or his idea. As a result, I only got my ahir cut short, and very curly, just like explosion. No style at all, not even a bit as they stated in their website that the stylist will have consultation with customers. No, not at all. Service worse that those cheaper salon. No one gave you any tissure to wipe off water of perm chemical. Not even to ask you if you like it after the hair done. Totally disappointed experience for me. Will not go back there again. I have written them an e-mail to inform them of my feeling, but no rely, no one even to bother to get back to you.

Going to Donato salon to do my hair was the biggest mistake I ever made. I ended up spending $160 on Just Dying my hair, the girl pushed me into getting streaks although i repeatidly told her i dont like the look of streaks, and she reassured me that it would not look streaky and would be well worth it. Well stupid me believed her. In the end i ended up with brassy looking stripes at the top of my head, it looked exactly like the old school highlighting kits u buy at the drugstore with the little cap...Very unproffessional looking and definately not worth $160. When i went back two days later to fix the brassiness...all they did was cover the streaks, which was ok because the streaks were Horrible...But i ended up paying them $160 for one solid colour. Girls...If u want to look hot Do NoT go to this place. Maybe they have one or two people who do an ok job...But seriously, it was way too overpriced. The same day, my hair cut cost me an additional $95, but it was just mediocre, not horrible...but nothing special. I thought by paying that much money i would be leaving there looking hot and faboulous...But that was very stupid of me. I will be going back to my old hairdresser who was awsome in the first place I have no idea why i decided to try somewhere new.
