I recently joined this gym and paid in cash for my initiation fee and yearly dues. Risky, I
know, but better than them having my banking or credit card info. I took everyone's advice
about "head office" continuing to deduct money after they had cancelled their membership,
so this is why I paid in cash. The club won't offer it, but if you ask before you join they might give
you the $10/month deal but with a higher initiation fee. I think only the manager can offer you this
deal, not the person sitting at the front desk. If you seem ready to join and sign up for a year,
then suddenly the $10/month deal becomes available.
So far, so good. The location is a bit sketchy and the bathrooms have a wierd smell, but for $10
a month it's not too bad. I find the staff friendly and helpful. Remember, they are just young women
trying to earn a living. There are alot of machines, usually in pretty good working order.
Some of the machines are duds though, so just avoid those ones. If you're looking for a place
to work out quickly downtown without any frills and you like the non-competitive atmosphere
of an all-female gym, then I would suggest this gym. The price is certainly right.

I have to agree this is definitely a horrible gym! When I first moved to Toronto I joined and while at first they seemed 'great' I quickly realized it was just a move to convince you to join! I'm someone who enjoys taking classes at the gym BUT many of the instructors were inexperienced! AND if you were able to come across a great instructor you can be assured she wouldn't be lasting long! The turnover at Fitness One is ridiculous! I think the regional manager and some staff would get jealous when they came across a great instructor because members would be begging for more classes...the next thing you know the instructor 'doesn't work there anymore' ! The monthly fee (I paid roughly $25) should definitely have been somewhat of a warning sign for me that and the fact that it was located in the basement of a shopping centre, and the rugs would be soaking wet and smelly after a rain storm! The closest location to me at the gym was Victoria Park and York Mills...I've learned from my mistake and now am a proud member of Goodlife Fitness..LOVE LOVE LOVE Goodlife!

I just want to deffend me and my co-workers at Fitness One...the girls at the desks and such. We would all love to be as helpful to our clients as they would like, but sadly for us our hands are tied by HQ, so please I understand your frustration, I am too as I am also a long time member, but this is truly a no frills gym and we would appreciate being treated as people, not some monsters out to take your cash...we are only doing our jobs as best as we can.
I myself love working and working out there, and I like the no pretence feel of the place.

OK, so as soon as you walk in, it hits you...this is not your average goodlife gym. it's worse.
I don't say this to be rude, but...the staff can be severely unfriendly, the equipment is on the old side, and the gym is not top notch cleanliness...but what do you expect for 16 bucks a month? you get what you pay for...so please people...stop complaining...if you want fancy...theres an extreme or goodlife right around the corner, but if your one of those people like me who don't have the time to go to a gym usually but want to know i belong to one, this one is definitely an option. I don't have the time to invest 5 days a week at the gym, so why would i invest that kind of money? I like fitness one, there's a couple oflocations, nobody bothers you about buying anything...and if you call head office...speak to the owners assistant...she knows what she's talking about and always calls back. The gym is clean enough to work out in and the staff are young and mostly approachable...they are not certified personal trainers, so dont expect that. just remember the golden rule...you get what you pay for here...a no frills gym that has equipment and is warm in the winter cool in the summer...no towels, no hair dryers, no tv....no big monthly due!!!
