Rhinoceros Cafe & Grill - San Diego

This is a cute, bustling cafe/bistro along the main drag on Coronado Island. We were drawn to it from the heavenly scents wafting out the door as we passed by. They have outdoor seating as well as indoor. The ambiance is a mix of French bistro meets highschool cafeteria and it was bustling. There were only 2 servers for the dinning room and outdoor area so they each had at least 8 tables when we started, so the service was understandably a little slow. A bit too slow for the table beside us who got up and left in a huff. We didn't mind because we weren't in a hurry and could see they were doing everything they could to get to everyone.

I ordered the tomato basil spagettini and Alex ordered a pork sandwich. The food was decent, not as heavenly as it smelled, but reasonably decent. It's pretty casual. There were a number of people in from the beach wearing bathing suits covered by tshirts, shorts or a dress. From the outside it looks like it would be quite elegant, but it is much more relaxed. Maybe it is different for dinner. I loved the high ceilings and the large windows that gave the whole room a sunny feel.

I recommend the rhino for families or couples looking for a quick lunch but I'm not sure about a romantic date.
